Chrysler cars are a poor value, even now with their thousands-off incentives. I'm a skeptic with a background of doing research on cars and the automotive industry, and I've always gone to dealerships having done my homework. It's easy for me to know if they are being deceitful, and I have found that most of the sales people I have met at Chrysler and other American brand dealerships have proven to be undeserving of my trust.

Why are we not putting the blame where it lies? Obama. In the first five months of this administration our great country has moved so far to the left and Socialism that I truly hope we can reverse this once he is gone. Isn't it wonderful that the guys who cannot even balance a checkbook now feel qualified to run private businesses. It is only going to get worse.

I personally have never liked the dodge/chrysler lineups, except the trucks, but even they had less than impressive interiors compared to the other manufacturers. I have owned mostly Fords and now own a Nissan Titan. The greatest truck I have ever owned.

Let's hope that Obama, and his crowd of henchmen, leave Ford alone. They seem to be doing fine without the experts interference.

No need to break the thread. This is about Chrysler & GM. If you have a POLITICAL comment, there are MANY suitable blogs for that purpose.

I was hoping to see the Chrysler dealership in Naples, Florida on the list. I went in this place once in 2000, and the sales person was cocky and rude. I proceded to Germain Toyota, bought a Sienna, and I've never set foot in a Chrysler dealership since.

I don't know if it's arrogance, stupidity, or both, but someone needs to tell these people that when they treat potential customers poorly the people don't just forget about it the next day. Whether justified or not, it's a reflection on Chrysler as a whole. It still makes me angry when I think about the experience.

Your experience was NOT only yours to bear...Have bought C-product thru the years and while happy with the product, the CUSTOMER SERVICE aspect was ALWAYS woeful and lacking and rude and abrasive and dismissive and arroagant and considered it the Chrysler company culture as it HAD to emanate from the top on down to have been so instilled and tolerated for far too many years (and am speaking of this reaction for easily the last 30-40 years...bought 2 C-vans in late 70's, paid cash, and subsequently thru the years, their attitude to customers, GOOD customers never changed and they felt THEY were doing the customer a favor of selling to them as well as delighted in various shammy scams to hike costs(is why NEVER would finance , never bought their packages/etc...really dismal experience but the vehicles were durable but hey, there ARE others that are as well and treat the customer far better !!!

Adding, in the last five years , did again purchase C-vehicles...two PT's for the teens...good little car to get them around and about but C outfits tried various rips in pricings and slicing and dicing what the product that it lost market and others supplanted. They limited production, manufactured in Mexico, others came along and easily replaced the niche that Chrysler COULD have had...They COULD have hooked the younger customer who MIGHT have become FUTURE loyal customers...but they managed it with their usual arrogance and got passed on by due to the stupidity of their arrogance on so many levels , quite a bunch of dimitted sorts running the operaton from top on down and infused into their dealership folks as well and their attitude truly has sucked for long time, simple justifiable payback now.

Murphy & Shelby Dodge in San Fernando Ca. is already closed, I drove by and it looks like it's been closed for a while. The Shelby is Carroll Shelby the racing car guy, guess this is one of his ventures that flopped.

What was the point of giving them billions of tax payer's money if the end result was going to be the same?
03:01 PM on 05/17/2009
The news reports are that these 800 dealers represent about 25% of the dealers.....so the answer to your question would be "to preserve the operations of the other 75%, of the core company operations, and the jobs of the remaining workforce".

So much for returns on the bailout money.

lt is sad to see the car companies closing so many dealers. GM is cutting about 40% of their dealers. They expect to sell far fewer cars in the future.

Used to own American cars. After the poor quality and horrible service at the dealer I am not surprised this is happening. We even called and wrote their corporate offices and were told that they had no influence over independent dealers. What? They can't influence them, but they can close them?

This is free market. Sell me a bad car, treat me poorly, and I will go elsewhere.

I am now a happy owner of 2 Hondas and a Toyota.

Ah yes, the free market! Well, it looks like unless we (the US) reduced our standard of living then we lose on the FREE MARKET front, doesn't it?

Thanks Liberals? Liberals have been trying to push these companies to produce more efficient cars for decades only to be blocked by out-of-date conservative thinking.

Who's shouting "drill baby drill" now?

I've had my Jeep serviced at two different dealerships by me.The one with the great staff is going-- the one with the jerks that gave me a hard time is staying.Oh lucky me---

Yes, on ABC News, a dealer in NJ who is in the top2% of sales nationwide...he's shut down and the non-performing dealer down the road has no more competition to worry about. Are these rewards to the duds a payoff for campaigh donations? What gives?
11:59 PM on 05/15/2009
The crooks who tried to swindle my wife for "needing car repairs while female" are on the list. I'm glad to see them go -- it couldn't happen to more deserving dealership.

And as an added bonus, they also have a Hummer dealership, which looks like it will be going away.

l live in a town of 25,000 and the Jeep division of a local Chevy dealership was is on the list...wonder how they will fair with the GM cuts next week. This dealership is over 50 years old and sells a whole lotta top dollar fancy fancy Jeeps so this is a surprise. In 1994 they had to import my shoebox basic Cherokee. Ironically the brand new Dodge dealership is unscathed.
Hhhhhmmm maybe this is how they will give the Jeep dealership to the Dodge dealer??????
02:56 PM on 05/15/2009
Wow, so they are offering people "payment protection" if they lose their job ? So pretty much GM will be using our bailout money to pay for other folks' cars... some of whom couldn't afford in the first place... good job GM.. .wasting our money in another marketing scheme...

Your argument makes absolutely no sense! How do people buying a car know that they are going to lose their job? If they buy a car when they have a job, they can afford it!

Quick, buy a car at employee pricing before the dealership where you work closes.
