2 adult students taken into custody at White House

WASHINGTON — Two people facing deportation from the United States have been taken into custody at the White House gate. They had arrived for a tour of the executive mansion.

The pair was part of an adult education program, and a routine background check showed they had an outstanding immigration order against them.

White House spokesman Nick Shapiro says they were taken into custody Thursday morning before they entered the compound.

All White House visitors are required to undergo a U.S. Secret Service background check. Shapiro says agents discovered the problems and informed immigration officials, according to protocol.

Many US citizens have become "economic fodder" because of the laxity of the INS during the Bush years and the greed of the cheap labor advocates. No US citizen should have to line up behind anyone in this country illegally for work, schools, or any benefits or privileges due them as a citizen.

Two million LEGAL immigrants come into the US each year, the most generous immigration policy of any country in the world. That seems fair, and some are actually political refugees in fear of their lives. I'm for humane and lawful immigration, not skirting the law. And I believe in fighting back against any govt which does not put the interests of its own citizens first; such policies lead to revolution, in the end.

Glad there are so many high-salaried liberals on this site who think it's fun for working class people of ALL ethnicities who are citizens of this country seeing jobs given to illegal immigrants by the cheap labor advocates. In doing so, you are siding with employers, not employees. I would be considered a liberal, except for the whole issue of illegal immigration.

If illegal immigrants had swarmed into this country taking all the high paid jobs, that situation would have been fixed in no time. It's obvious none of you have ever been laid off and seen your job given to someone who can't even speak English, or subcontracted jobs with someone you've dealt with for years in the construction industry, only to be underbid by someone who employs only illegal immigrants.

Although recently, I have seen well paid IT industry workers complaining that LEGAL immigrants are being hired to replace them, at lower wages, of course. When some people are comfortable, they could give a damn about anyone else's employment opportunities (or lack of).

BS. I have lived among many diverse people and you know nothing about my background, including working in the civil rights, women's and anti-war movements in the 60s and 70s. Obviously, you are talking out of school. No pun intended. BTW, I voted for Pres. Obama BECAUSE I wanted to see the first AA president before I died (even though I'm a feminist and would have been expected to vote for Hillary). And if you kept up, you'd realize that African Americans suffer more unemployment than any other segment of the population; in some areas it's as high as 50%.

Liberals don't require you to swear to any commandments in order to come into the tent, much less sign in blood that you'll unquestioningly adhere to every single one or be kicked out of the family like the GOP seems to be doing lately. I'm the daughter of an immigrant married to an immigrant and we strongly support cracking down on illegal immigration. The difference between liberals and conservatives is that the conservatives target the immigrants individually as the problem whereas liberals generally can see that it's the employers that are the problem (and generally large employers too, not just some small peanuts subcontracting firm). Cheating the system needs to be penalized at BOTH ends, but more harshly on the end that is basically using it as an end run around slavery laws.

It's inspiring to see that our Immigration Service is on top of things, even if they have to go so far as to catch miscreants doing things such as taking tours more civic-minded than most of us would bother with.

(Speaking only for myself, I know I will never be taking a White House tour because the whole idea of Secret Service attention just rubs me wrong.) (And I'm a natural-born citizen working at a DoE site.)

Further, this sort of action helps protect the brave members of our Immigration Service from actually working down on the border where murderous gang activity is spilling across into our nation at an ever-increasing rate due to the inevitable laws of supply and demand.

We can call this a Win/Win situation, as long as it doesn't matter who wins, and who wins.
