I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Ron Howard appeared on Friday's "The View" and Sherri asked the director how he wound up in the booze-infused video for Jamie Foxx's "Blame It On The Alcohol," along with people like Jake Gyllenhaal and Samuel L. Jackson. (Watch the whole video below "The View" clip)

As Tom Hanks teared up laughing beside him following a video clip they played, Howard explained.

"We were at the inauguration, and there's this whole spirit of brotherhood, and I thought it was going to be some We Are The World thing."

He also detailed how he was told not to smile during the shoot.

Funny videos, but enough with the Auto-Tune, already!

At least figure out something new to do with it, instead of making every singer sound exactly the same (i.e., like T. Pain)...

While I can't say I'm enamored of the subject matter, I think Ron has no reason to be embarassed to be a part of it. I think it's kinda nice that he was asked to do this. Jamie obviously thinks Ron is cool.

Tom Hanks black guy accent was impeccable! No wonder he's such a great actor and even greater guy.

eh. . .. no it wasn't. He sounded like an effeminate black guy, ala the hotmess from America's Next Top Model. It's obvious he hasn't done comedy in a while. He better get some tips from Robert Downey Jr. and relearn how to be "a dude playing a dude playing another dude".

Why is everybody so shocked at Ron Howard being in the Jamie Foxx/Hype Williams video? LOL! Opie Cunningham is widely respected in the hood. That is not a joke. The hood loves people for being themselves no matter what they are. That's why Whoopi said he was always considered a "brother".

i feel compelled to respond.

i really hope that you are neither believing nor promoting the idea that Whoopi's considering RH a "brother" means that this is a universal black sentiment. the main reason why this concerns me is that i have repeatedly been the "black person" in many situations (school, work, residence, etc.) and i hate when it is assumed that my opinions or behavior speak for all of the black world. i'm sure there are other folks out there who can relate to this experience. Whoopi's opinion is exactly that...HER opinion. i grew up in Brooklyn (the center of Brooklyn - not the edges where the Manhattan spillover like to settle), and i can tell you that "Opie" and the very image of RH was largely seen as the most opposite extreme compared to our mostly Black, urban existence. i love RH and most of his work, but i don't feel a need to somehow try to make him an honorary black person in order for that respect to be meaningful. i also love my eastern European boyfriend, and he's not a "brother" by any stretch of the imagination. if a white person turned around and told me i am so "widely respected in the [stereotyped place where ALL white people live]" i'm not sure how i would respond. Whoopi is not an ambassador of Blackness (no one is - not even our esteemed President).

.......jeeeez! Get over yourself. So fine, Whooopi wasn't speaking for you. I don't even think she said she was speaking for all black people. She was just trying to make a nice compliment to the guy. All over a sudden, you have to cr@p all over it.
Seriously.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who try hard to understand what someone means, and those who try hard to NOT understand what people mean. I have a sneaking suspicion you fall into the latter category. I totally agree with what Whoopi was saying -- she's talking about "street cred", which has nothing to do with someone's blackness, but how much they are loved by the black community. Stars like Ron Howard and to a greater extent Tom Hanks, Al Pacino, and Clint Eastwood have it -- and that's all Whoopi was trying to convey.

Well, I just got back from a meeting here in the Florida Keys about the high rate of alcohol abuse among teenagers, so forgive me if I don't find this so amusing.

When did alcohol abuse become so funny? Thanks Ron Howard and Jamie what's his name.

Its just a song. Do you want to go back in time and protest Luke Campbell again? I've had enough of people blaming debauchery on music, movies and video games. We only got electricity just over a hundred years ago.

I am suprised people don't get the panda, the song is about blaming acting the fool on alcohol.

Usually when you drink that much the cliche of "imaginary talking animals" is common in American Lexicon.

Or they were drinking on set and some clown thought it would be funny to raid the costume closet (same point though!)
