Mary-Louise Parker's Nude 'Weeds' Regret

Mary-Louise Parker has always been fine with the sex scenes in her role as Nancy Botwin, a marijuana-selling suburban mom in the Showtime series Weeds, but she thinks that a recent nude scene of her in the bathtub took things a little too far.

"I didn't think I needed to be naked," she tells MORE magazine in its June issue. "I fought with the director about it, and now I am bitter. I knew it was going to be on the Internet: 'Mary Louise shows off her big nipples.' I wish I hadn't done that. I was goaded into it."

Coerced? She's the star of the show and probably has a producing credit. They're not going to fire her. She's not some replaceable 19 year old on her first acting job. If she had refused to do it, there would be no nude scene. Period.

"goaded"? Like that scene in the movie Fame where Irene Cara aka Coco, goes to a "photographer's" apartment and he tells her she'll be a big star if she just takes off the shirt. Mary Louise Parker is already an accomplished and wonderful actress, she needs a friend on set.

Personally, I've never warmed up to her "stare while speaking" style of acting, and I seem to recall a dress at the Emmys that was basically showing off her breasts. Plus, she stars in a show about a woman selling pot. So, a lingerie scene is to exploitive? Right.

I Googled her and saw a pretty wild sex scene. It looked like it was from Weeds. Anyone know? By comparison, her scene in the bathtub was nothing.

Y'know, the best way to deal with the regret of having done something you consider to be embarrassing is discuss it with the media. Because then no one will ever see it again!!

I watch the show, I only vaguely recall the scene and didn't particularly remember her being nude. Of course NOW I've googled it and watched it and certainly remember it. If she hadn't said anything no one would be talking about it. People need to learn to let things go... if, in fact, they don't want people to notice them. Ii suspect in this case, though, MLP knows full well that she's drawing attention to the show this way. She's been in the entertainment industry long enough to know that.

That being said, her reaction is kind of strange considering Weeds' story line.

ML Parker is a strong an beautiful woman. Sadly, she lives in a puritanical society that, in 2009, is still scandalized exposed breasts. Otherwise, my guess is that she would never have made these statements. The scene really did speak of the character's vulnerability, and had nothing to do with exploitation.
