Palin

People Magazine:

Bristol Palin's pretty, lightly freckled face was nowhere to be seen on the overhead screen as images from her high-school senior slideshow -- photos from the prom and a Class of 2009 portrait set against the Alaska snow -- played during May 14's Wasilla High commencement ceremony.

Did it make her sad to have missed out on so much senior-year fun -- to be spending graduation night not with a gang of friends but at home, giving her 5-month-old son a bottle while her extended family plays "Eskimo bingo"?

You get the feeling from Bristol that she can not be her own person or that she is able to think and feel for herself.

She even stated that absitinence is not Realistic when she was able to say something with her mom breathing down her neck. Then her mom barges in and throws Levi's mom under the Bus and takes over.

Levi's mom was out in the hallway waiting to go on but Sarah imposed herself and wanted to be in the spotlight.

It is a shame that Bristol is just a pawn in her moms political career.

I was hoping she would breakfree from her moms grasp and say something smart like

The consequences have having sex even if protected can result in a child.
Abstinence while it is the only true form of safe sex is not Realistic and Girls need to be taught about all forms of birth control in order to protect themself the best they can.

She should have said. Safe sex is fun and something that should not be hidden from teenagers but to be discussed openly amongst family friends church and school.

While I hold a certain disdain for Sarah Palin, I must say that I think some of the comments on these posts are a little harsh. Let's not be so judgemental. A little less self righteousness couldn't hurt either. We all have regrets in life, we all have things that we wish we could have done differently. She is really young and unfortunately she had to learn the hard way. I think a lot of the people bashing Bristol need to take a look in the mirror. Just because you've engaged in unprotected s.ex in your lifetime, and got lucky and didn't have to suffer the consequences of an unplanned pregnancy, doesn't make you better than her.

Hey, genius, girls 'realize' the consequences of sex. Most of us learned how babies are created at an early age through talking with our parents, or, failing that, at school. If you didn't know that girls can become pregnant through unprotected sex, well, you're the only one who didn't.

Bristol - abstinence doesn't always work. And when it doesn't you're supposed to use birth control.

Also, I feel sorry for your kids. Someday he's bound to read all of this and I'm sure he won't be thrilled to find out that you think he was a mistake and drag on your life!

Me Thinks! Jamie Spears is owed an apology immediately! My party you know the sanctimonious, self-righteous, holier-than-thou GOP's talked about you and dammed you to hell... But BP gets praised because our Mom is a pretender!

I guess most demoliberal girls wouldn't have that problem. If they got pregnant, they'd just abort it.

It's cool - just like us Republican do as well - but we hide it...... I know too many of them who have had them..... they knew if you don't put the raincoat on for protection it will rain hard. So Please stop with this crap. Just look at the Priest who sexually abused...... It rained for them tooooooo and they couldn't help it.............we all have sexual desires...even children you fool

No I think demoliberal girls use birth control because they know that abstinence doesn't work. I don't think that abortion is a birth control but a last option.

Thank you for your awesome genius. You are correct that abstinence doesn't work. I know several girls that are pregnant from using abstinence. Hehehehe

Why wasn't she aware that one of the consequences would be pregnancy? Surely they have sex education classes at school...oh right.

If the baby is a blessing why not encourage other teens to experience the same blessings.

Everyone in this family has a track record for lying like a sidewalk as several of you have mentioned before how would she be able to miss most of her junior year, a portion of her senior year, have a baby, work two part time jobs and graduate? I still believe the real Bristol is the one we saw in the FOX interview she told her mother nothing about.

There was recently an article in one of the Dutch newspapers comparing teen sexuality and teen pregnancies in Holland, Japan and the US. In all three countries, the percentage of teenage girls (and boys) having sex was more or less the same. But only in the US did that translate into high levels of teen pregnancies.

While I can't speak for Japan, my Dutch friends (as well as my Dutch parents) tend to be very direct with their kids at an early age about the birds and the bees, and above all instill an understanding that even if sex seems irresistible, pregnancies are entirely avoidable given the wide choice of birth control methods available today.

Why, oh why, can't this common sense be more prevalent in the US? Sex is inevitable. All of the misery surrounding teen pregnancies doesn't have to be. A little less moralizing a little more pragmatism would do a world of good.

Hi Bafun - good to hear from you.

The trip has unfortunately been postponed - am now in the US for a few weeks instead. Looking to do my "Rheinland Tour" in three weeks from now.

Hope all is well with you.
