Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Pats Husband's Derrière During Interview (VIDEO)

The Sarkozys are no strangers to public displays of affection, and now it's been caught on tape.

When France's first lady invited five readers of the women's magazine Femme Actuelle to Elysee Palace, the president dropped in for a surprise visit. The couple engaged in what could only be called light petting, as Bruni stroked her husband's backside, hands, lapel, and face. She also called him "chou-chou" (cabbage, a French term of endearment) .

What's funny is what she said when he turned up:

"You see, as soon as there are girls, as soon as there are women..." joking that the President of France has a habit of turning up when there are good-looking ladies around.

He remarks that they have been sitting around chit-chatting for an hour and a half, which may mean "you gals have kinda overstayed your welcome", and when he leaves he tells them to continue to "bavarder", which basically means "shoot the breeze".

The body language may be a bit of braggadoccio on her part in front of all these women but who knows how they are in private. His in turn may be "profitez-en" or just responding in kind. They seem very comfortable with each other though, and it must be said that Sarko seems quite happy.

Who's to judge? But I present the commentary because I think it's an interesting corollary.

He is definitely condescending in his expressions, to the point of coming across as somewhat sexist. Which is kind of crazy, because she is definitely more talented than him, and possibly smarter.

America has pilgrim hangups which it refused to let go thanks to the media carrying gossip versus living up to the modern standards of the free world. The rest of the world is far ahead of us in social culture and don't have a media worrying about some slip of the hand or tongue.

Public displays of affection are sweet and endearing ( to a degree ). Hand-holding, entwined arms, and even public smooching are okay. But in the video above, after the first few caresses, it seemed somewhat of a 'put on.'
