Huntsman Called Obama's China Policy "A Complete Blackout"

John Huntsman, President Obama's newly-appointed Ambassador to China, is quoted in this months Rolling Stone magazine criticizing the administration's China policy.

"There are a lot of pieces to the foreign-policy puzzle that have been left out so far... Our most important relationship in the world is China. There's nothing going on there right now. And what about trade? I haven't heard a thing about our trade agenda -- it's been a complete blackout."

The former Gov. of Utah's was interviewed for Tim Dickinson's article, "The GOP Jihad," before being nominated for the ambassadorship.

It sounds like Huntsman used the interview to convey his interest in the job. I'm glad the Obama people became aware of the news interview and brought the guy in for the job interview. That he speaks Chinese is an immeasurable plus. Good luck to former Governor Huntsman!

Huntsman's judgment and reasoning ability are in question, given his membership in the Mormon religion. Yes, one could make a similar case regarding persons who belong to other religions. But one really has to try hard to fall for some of the nutty Mormon beliefs and doctrines. At one time the Mormon’s believed that blacks had the mark of Cain and could not go to their version of “heaven”. Kind of ironic given Huntsman’s new boss.

And what makes the Communist Party in China viable is the actions of millions of people who make up cadres that keep the lid on anything resembling dissent. The fact that there are millions of Mormons does not inherently imbue them with virtue. Indeed, the church leadership, in poking its nose into the personal business of gays and dead relatives of non-Mormons illustrates the hubris and overreach of that faith's leadership.

And can you say, "magic underwear"?

The problem I have with Huntsman is that he owns a company that is a major environmental polluter. That outfit got spanked bigtime for that recently in Texas, in fact. Therefore, considering that we are now in an era where failure to deal correctly with environmental issues could mean human extinction, Huntsman has little credibility on that issue, even with the insane amount of pollution in China.

Huntsman was the right right choice for reasons that go so beyond the Mormon religion.

Is our relationship with China more important than our relationship with the UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, and France? As far as trade goes, it's been mostly a one-way street as anyone who shops at Wal-Mart knows.

For years people in the US have lived in an environment where latent racism against Chinese and China is usually manifested in what most folks call China Bashing. I don't think Obama's policy is a black hole, I thing those in his administration cannot rise abouve their bias, and give up blaming China for everything and anything.

Obama's police appears to be an "In your face" public dressing down, and is the only country Obama specifically mentions as the "bad guy." That does not bode well for international relations. And, sad to say, is thinly veiled racism.

Why do I say this, because Obama is one smart guy, and on every other issue he has been fair minded.
