'JON & KATE' SNEAK PEEK: Separate Interviews, Detachment (VIDEOS)

Access Hollywood got an advance clip of the impending season of "Jon & Kate Plus 8."

Amid stories of marital strife, numerous magazine covers and reports of affairs, the once cozy couple is now filming their episodes separately, instead of side-by-side as they have every season previously.

Jon somewhat cryptically tell the cameras "Kate and I have obviously been going through some stuff. Discussing what's best for kids."

After an awkward scene from their sextuplets recent birthday party is shown, "Access" then played a clip from their own set last year, when the family was visiting and the parents snapping at each other.

I never heard of "Jon & Kate" before reading this article. So, naturally, I'm hardly overwrought concerning their marital tensions. They're just some people I don't know living in a world full of people most of whom I don't know going through the same problems innumerable others are going through. Were I to get emotionally involved in "Jon & Kate", then, by rights, to be fair, I ought to get emotionally involved in ALL the unfortunate things going on in ALL the lives of ALL the people in the world. Which is, of course, another way of saying, lie down and die... because, who, after all, can LIVE like that?
The fact that these people are complaining about how "the media" have hurt them when they're the ones who, obviously, lustily embraced their 15 minutes of fame simply points to the idiocy of the pop-culture - the idiocy of those who swallow it, the idiocy of those who offer themselves on its altar. The greatest irony of all this is lies in how much emotional and financial investment is made in how much that matters precisely not one whit. The popular culture is a collective idiot.

There is a family in Michigan who had sextupulets through fertility treatments. They couldn't get pregnant on their own. Our local newspaper does a piece on them once a year around their birthday(s).

At least one has special needs, and could probably use a TV show's revenue. However, they have kept their kids out of the spotlight, living in the small town where they grew up, near their families.

Here is an example of fertility treatments gone RIGHT. J&K is how they went WRONG.

Wait a minute. THIS is the family, marriage, parents that fundamentalist, anti gay marriage, anti-gay fundamentalist Christians were flaunting as an example of "family values" and a representation of the "sanctity of marriage".

Who watches this garbage? I have never even heard of either of these people, for that matter that Hills fiasco, nor any of its actors. I have better things to do with my time, money than to waste on cable programs of this kind. I find it sad and pathetic these people get air time at all for doing nothing. have thiey cured cancer? People tend to marry people who function at about the same level (but with different expressions of their problems) as they do. Jon also needs therapy. He has always reminded me of Baby Huey. I can imagine her frustration when he's supposed to be roller-blading with the kids and the little ones are on Big Wheels and he's skating away from them. All of them are in the middle of the road. What 30ish man should have to be told he needs to stay back with his kids where he can make sure they don't get hit?

I knew from the very beginning of this reality wreck Kate had serious issues that only she perceived as admirable. She bragged how she was a germaphobe but she combed all the kids' hair in the kitchen...she bragged about "organic" and "green" but every meal the family ate was on paper plates. Kate started sticking up Biblical quotes in the kitchen and Jon started wearing t shirts with Biblical quotes on them. Kate was told it would help attract viewers who also had big families and viewers from the "Pro-choice" right . If viewers watch some of the earlier shows, they will notice early on Kate does not interact with her children. She seems very uncomfortable showing and giving affection. She almost never touches the children or expresses candid joy or happiness. This is scary for a mother.

I agree that she's manipulative and oriented toward keeping the show on the air, but she's a minister's kid. She probably had an orientation for the Bible long before there were cameras on her. I saw a lot more affection from her to the kids in the earlier shows -- just saw a couple yesterday (I've maybe seen a total of two from each season the past few weeks out of curiosity) and the difference in affection between her and the kids and between Jon and Kate themselves two seasons back is striking.

With neither of them employed, one wonders what would happen should the cameras stop rolling. The kids will suffer from shock once there are no more cameras filming their every move. They must have such a sense of self-importance as a result of growing up in front of cameras. They likely think they are way more important than they actually are.

There should be a psychological study done on these children to document the psychological damage being done to them living in the camera's eye.

Just a sick way to live.

We already have proof about the damage to kids living in the camera's eye without the proper protection in place....kids being exploited by parents and companies for the entertainm­ent....let­'s see: Loud Family: An American Family; Paul Peterson: explains on A Minor Consideration website; Dionne Quintuplets, child stars: Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges, Michael Jackson...what more proof do we need?

Supernanny, Dr. Phil, Jon and Kate, Table for 12, I can go on and on...shows that videorecord children in their own homes, in their most vulnerable moments and broadcast for the public entertainment.

The kids will grow up and tell their side of the story...and it won't be pretty. It is a sick way to live, and it is even sadder that the American public is just sitting back and letting it happen.

Everyone always bashes Kate and she can be controlling, I'll give you that, but I have another viewpoint. Jon is the most detached, unemotional, uninvolved parent and husband I have ever witnessed on TV. Granted, it's TV and considering editing, I don't believe I am getting any true insight into the household whatsoever, yet, Kate has no choice to take control for he is slug. She has to tell him what to do or he sits and vegetates. Someone has to parent those 8 kids.

What you see in a lot of marriages is that the husband is more than happy to relinquish control/re­sponsbilit­y and let the wife be 'the bad guy'. That way everyone feels sorry for him but he's unfairly letting the wife take on all of the burden.

I agree. John is so checked-out all the time. I'm always wanting to yell "Earth to John!!"

I don't think that John should be the "leader" all the time but John absolutely refuses to lead.... and Kate refuses to let him lead on the rare instances that he tries. Instead, Kate always leads and John acts like he is half asleep.

I've never thought that their relationship looked fun...or healthy.

Have you ever heard the song, "You made me what I am today. I hope you're satisfied." I would guess they are each getting what they want by her controlling and him being controlled. Sad that the children are practically incidental to this fiasco.

I've never watched the show except accidentally when channel surfing. So many social issues arise with this show. No one has commented on his parents. Where are they. Does he have a profession other than reality tv show dad? If they first became parents in their 20's what was their plan for being able to afford that family. I waited until I was nearly 40 to have my first child because I wanted to be sure we could afford to raise them at a middle class level and that I could afford to give up my career and raise my kids myself. I think if people are smart about the show and the clear social messages it sends, they will see that responsibility for children begins with mature people who plan for the future and who don't cast their fate to the wind so to speak. Final comment, Jon and Kate are the original octomom-types.

Jon is apparently unemployed according to other pieces written on this saga. I remember when the show first aired (and I don't watch it but have seen so many clips it feels like I have) he was some kind of computer tech or something.

TLC seems to be airing shows from the earlier season in response to all this interest from a wider audience. Jon was an IT analyst when it first started, so probably a lot happier because he didn't have to deal with the kids all day. You could see that she did a lot more of the work around the house then and they didn't have as many staged or scripted scenes as they seem to have in the later seasons.

This show was a train wreck waiting to happen. It's one of the reasons I watched it. The dynamic between the germophobic, agrophobic, incessantly demanding Kate and passive-aggressive Jon was fascinating to watch amidst all the clamor of 8 kids running around. Unfortunately, the real losers will be the kids.Beisdes dealing with the impending divorce they will have to deal with growing up on camera and all the future expectations that will bring.

People who already have children should not get fertility treatments. Certainly not paid for by someone else or necessitating the merchandising of their home life.

From what I saw, Jon was happy with the twins. It was Kate who wanted '1' more kid and wound up with 6.

You are absolutely correct on all points. Fertility treatments should require some sort of counselling sessions so that folks who choose to have children in litters understand what they are getting into. I had four children in 9 years and found it most challenging to give everyone as much as I wanted and as much as they needed. Having large numbers all at once much be very difficult for the parents and the children. Someone with some sense should be preparing the parents and families for all that will involve.

Good point. Jon and Kate need to get over themselves and what they 'want'--in other words, grow up- and REALLY put the kids first. Don't just give it lip service ad nauseum. I just can't stand what they're doing to these children. Can you imagine being an awkward or shy child and having cameras capturing every embarrassing moment? And then knowing that it will always belong to some entity that can pull out the video and show it at any given time, and you have no control over it? Why would ANYONE who cares about their children every allow this? Kate is motivated by something other than what's best for the family, and she really needs some help.
