Liz Cheney

Think Progress:

The Washington Monthly's Steve Benen has been keeping a close watch on Liz Cheney, noting that the ubiquitous daughter of the former vice president "practically lives on cable news" these days. "She also lies routinely, accuses the president of helping terrorists, and is so mindless in her attacks on the nation's elected leadership, she's something of a national embarrassment," Benen writes. And according to close friends of hers, she may be the next Cheney to run for office:

Liz Cheney is proof positive of GOP nepotism run amuck. The GOP who decries affirmative action at every level is guilty of ensuring that their own spawn are deeply embedded in every thing they touch.

They would have us believe that dear Liz and her husband, after having graduated from a small regional college, have attended the nations' top law schools, interned at national law firms, served in top positions in the State Dept. (her) and top counsel to the Homeland Security Dept.(him) while managing to raise 5 children, all on their own merit. I have no doubt that dear Liz will run for office and continue the family dynasty because that is what these people do. Liz, like her dad, who no doubt believes she is THE middle east expert and would not hesitate to take out Iran if she has it her way, will commit other people's children to their Wars of Convenience while sheltering their own from harms way.

Oh, that's good. It will mean another Democrat wins a seat in congress! Yea! Run lizard, run!
03:24 PM on 05/26/2009
That depends on where she is going to run..
02:54 PM on 05/26/2009
Well deferring Dick has been out there selling the acceptance of torture because he's scared of being prosecuted. Period. Of course Liz has been assisting him to a degree. I wouldn't be surprised to see her attempting to go into politics big time. Luckily most in the United States have moved beyond conservative Republican rhetoric.

“The rewards and punishments of Cheney and Rumsfeld’s revolution in military affairs have been profound,†Chatterjee writes, “not least for the soldiers who are now supplied with hot food and showers around the clock.

For the Pentagon generals, it has meant that they can do far more with far fewer soldiers….

Accompanying this new industry is the potential for bribery, corruption, and fraud.

Dozens of Halliburton/KBR workers and their subcontractors have already been arrested and charged, and several are already serving jail terms for stealing millions of dollars….

The bulk of workers, however, will not see anything close to that, as the pay for Asian workers probably averages $1000 a month….

These men and women make up Halliburton’s Army, which employs enough people to staff one hundred battalions, a total of more than fifty thousand personnel who work for KBR under a contract that is now projected to reach $150 billion.

Together with the workers who are rebuilding Iraq’s infrastructure and the private security divisions of companies like Blackwater, Halliburton’s Army now outnumbers the uniformed soldiers on the ground in Iraq.â€

Chatterjee traces the history of Halliburton’s government contracts to the mutually beneficial relationship of its subsidiary, Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR) with Texan President Lyndon Baines Johnson.

In HALLIBURTON’S ARMY, Chatterjee delves deeply into the controversies spawned by the company’s near-monopoly in providing the services that have made the war in Iraq possible, including:

• The network of kickbacks, bribes and fraud involving employees and subcontractors of Halliburton/KBR in Kuwait and Iraq.
• The inordinate number of no-bid government contracts that Halliburton/KBR has secured.
• How Halliburton/KBR botched the repair of Iraq’s oil fields using Iraq’s own money.
• The role Halliburton/KBR’s negligence has played in the deaths of American civilians and foreign workers, and the company’s subsequent refusal to acknowledge responsibility.
• The “human trafficking†that Halliburton/KBR subcontractors use to lure foreign workers to Iraq with false promises.
• Labor exploitation and an unofficial “caste system†perpetrated by Halliburton/KBR and its subcontractors, with sliding pay scales based on workers’ nationalities.
• Free-flowing alcohol among high-level Halliburton/KBR executives in Muslim countries with strict legal prohibitions against these vices.
• How U.S. government employees and military personnel have been disgraced and demoted when daring to blow the whistle on Halliburton/KBR’s questionable practices and accounting.
• Halliburton/KBR’s dealings with corrupt subcontractors and others with questionable reputations.
• The squandering of U.S. taxpayers’ money through gross overcharges on the part of Halliburton/KBR and its subcontractors.

Liz Cheney is one person who I want to see fail at any attempt at a political career "or anything else" in that matter.

Well we already know what her policies are they pretty much match Daddies, well expect for one exception. Problem is will the GOP allow a gay person to run? Maybe they can get Dobson to make her non gay, since the GOP beleives it is a choice, and not something you are born with. This should be interesting in how that aspect turns out, but I really do not see where she could add anything positive to the country or the government, considering she is pro torture, and will do what ever it takes to win the war on terror, including violating international laws.

I don't believe that Liz is gay, his other daughter Mary is gay and is in a long-term stable relationship (but not a marriage!!!) and has a child with her partner Heather....I know the irony is mind-blowing but characteristic of the "Don;t do I as I do, Do as I say" repubs.
02:11 PM on 05/26/2009
her sister Mary is gay but she is married and unfortunately reproduced 5 times.

I'm sorry but after the last eight years of Bush/Cheney, it will be decades for someone related to these two to hold office. Too many bad memories, bad policies, and outright lies.

Never underestimate a disgraced Republican having success. Look at Reagan, Nixon, Ollie North, G. Gordon Liddy, and others. Now matter how they fail or disgrace the country, they somehow make it in the end.

Democrats? Not so much.

dogcatcher maybe.
