I'd rather plug-in educated guesses at web addresses than use their search engine.

I have heard a lot about remarketing, rebranding and ad campaigns but not much on innovation.

That is where the problem lies - Microsoft for years (15+) has spent too much time trying to overtake some area that they shouldn't, meanwhile their core products are bloated crap. When are they going to spend the time and capital to make their core products the best products money can buy and not "just what we have to use". If Google makes billions off a search engine, let them. If Apple makes the best phone with iPhone and the best music device with iPod, let them. Microsoft has the OS, Server (including SQL, Exchange, OCS, etc), and office suite (MS Office) areas monopolized, yet there are so many bugs and issues with such things as their Exchange 2007 product that our client complaints have risen 1000% since "upgrading" from the 2003 version, and we are constantly sending Microsoft log files as their own engineers are at a loss on how to fix their products. Our CIO has personally called MS bigwigs many times, as having 160,000+ users worldwide, these major issues discovered after a "new" release seriously impact our business and revenue.

Yep, we really need a new search engine there, Mr. Balmer! Better get right on that!

Well said.

No software can be economically developed without bugs but Microsoft habitually and prematurely releases their software with security deficiencies just to make more money sooner. Then they wait for users to send in complaints and if they can figure it out or think it's worth their bother, they issue updates.

Microsoft accomplished a lot but they tend to over extend themselves. I still wonder why they entered the TV news business with NBC (MSNBC).

An "overhaul"? Microsoft needs to start over from scratch. Their search is a joke. Even their OS search doesn't work. I have searched for items I was actually looking at on the desktop, and Microsoft has told me no such item was found. Remember that option on Google, "Feeling lucky?" where you don't use Google search, and it never finds anything? That's Microsoft.

You've got to realize the product you were looking for didn't pay bribe money to Microsoft to find it.

The search is confusing and I doubt I'll ever get my "cash back" at this late date.

Okay their search provides a basic entry... and usually some weird or useless links near the top. Google isn't perfect but one can usually open up 6 or so links from the first page and be finished. I've been stuck with IE so I tried to give Live search an equal shot but it's inferior and quicker just to go to Google.
