Fox News Among Top 5 Cable Channels In NBA-Dominated Week

Fox News was the #4 ranked cable channel in primetime last week, a week dominated by the NBA playoffs.

Fox News Channel averaged 1.89 million total viewers in primetime for the week of 5/18/09 - 5/24/09, according to Nielsen Media Research. TNT placed first on the strength of the NBA playoffs with an average of 3.32 million total viewers. USA (2.82 million), ESPN (2.22 million), and TBS (1.53 million) rounded out the top five.

Fox News has now ranked in the top five cable networks for 20 straight weeks. The network, which had regularly been placing second behind USA, recently began selling advertisers on the idea that it is gunning for USA's #1 crown (USA regularly places first in the cable ratings, but Fox News has been narrowing in on its lead).

MSNBC placed 24th in primetime with an average of 747,000 total viewers, while CNN placed 28th with an average of 651,000 total viewers.
