Too late. They've already piled on her, publicly, with no substantive criticism, just vileness.

Actually... there's a lot of substance in their criticism.

They won't do what the Democrats did to B0rk or Th0mas...

Republicans can’t figure out how to cut holes in their hoods without poking themselves in their eyes.

Ahh yes... the old GOP-as-KayKayKay refrain...

Pr0gressives and assorted leftists... when your arguments are weak, simply lodge this charge at your ide0logical enemy.

Too late the GOP has already attacked. How do you think minorities and females feel about the GOP now. Just take it in for one day, and look into it instead of this fearmongering, and finger pointing.
You get screwed everytime you use fear and attack.

The 2 party system will be achieved from the Democratic party, without any help from the Torture (nee:Republican) Party.

The Dems will become the nations party in the next 2 elections, taking over 80 + % of all available seats.

Then, because it will be such a big / huge "tent", it will fracture into 2 different camps, based on the old Dems vs. Repubs concept.

Hopefully, the future version of each party will be able to avoid the present sick Republican version.

Alito: "My family’s immigrant experience shaped judicial outlook"

Via Glenn Greenwald (and one of his readers) comes a moment from Samuel Alito’s confirmation hearings that will either silence Sonia Sotomayor’s conservative critics or expose their hypocrisy for what it is.

In an exchange with Sen. Tom Coburn, who had asked Alito to discuss how his personal experiences shows that "he cared for the little guy," Alito said that his family’s experience as immigrants influenced his outlook on immigration cases.

Alito:

"And that’s why I went into that in my opening statement. Because when a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who is an immigrant — and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases — I can’t help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn’t that long ago when they were in that position…

When I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."

So what? Alito did not say his experince enables him to make better decisions than a minority.

Unfortunately, Sotomayor did. She will be confirmed so all of this will make no difference.

Poor, poor Mr. Steele. You actually sound rational today. Unfortunately, you didn't receive the talking points memo because that horse has left the barn. What's been said in the last few days is nothing compared to what's coming.

So when Sam Alito said his family’s immigrant experience influenced his outlook, it was okay, but now that Sonia Sotomayor (who, like Alito, is an appeleta judge) has been nominated to the Supreme Court, she’s a "racist?"

Puhlease. The real issue for these guys isn’t what she said. They’re just pissed off about who said it.

When will Steele finally figure out no one in the GOP listens to what he has to say because he is there as a show piece so the GOP can claim they appeal to all ethnicities.

too late, the ad wars have begun...the GOP smearing is in full force. Say hello to permanent majority.

That the RNC should have to give direction to the GOP to watch themselves with regard to attacks on Sotomayer speaks to how much of a far-right group they've become. They now need lessons on deportment?

What has the GOP become? Certainly not a vibrant party with an alternative vision for America. Just a regional group of whining bigots who hate that Dems are moving the country forward in a way that reflects the national make-up of the U.S. -- and that isn't all-lily-white any more. We are a diverse nation and need to find ways to bring people of all nationalities, faiths and races into our "tent". So get with the program, GOP, or become obsolete.

OK everyone just calm down, go back and read her comment in the context of her speech like I did. What Sotomayor was talking about in her Berkeley speech is the importance of diversity in our judges. This speech is a call for all types of judges, white males included but also others, because, in her words, personal experiences affect the facts that judges choose to see.

She said, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived her life, IN THE CONTEXT OF DECIDING SEX OR RACIAL DISCRIMINATION CASES. Just like in deciding an antitrust case, a judge who only had the experience of being a big corporate CEO might look at the case differently than a judge who only had the experience of being a small business owner.

Now you can agree or disagree with her sentiment that having judges with varying personal experiences makes the judicial system better. But calling her a racist because of it is completely and utterly INACCURATE. Once again I fear the conservative bigots will win on spinning this one.

What goes through Steele's head when he hears these attacks from his own party?
Sotomayor (at first blush) appears to be imminently qualified. In fact compared to any of W's picks, she is quite literally stellar!
The fact that rethugs are ignoring her "only in America" success story is truly mystifying. They typically love that stuff.
