businessinsider.com:

Tesla is recalling 345 of its Roadsters, made between March 2008 and April 22, 2009 due to an issue with the rear hub.

The recall affects a significant chunck of Tesla's Roadster sales, as this press release from May 12 says the company has delivered over 400 Roadsters thus far.

This has nothing to do with Tesla's powertrain or intellectual property, it's an issue with the Lotus assembly line that builds the Roadster. Lotus is also recalling vehicles.

Tesla tells us it will be sending technicians to its customers homes to fix the problem, which just involves tightening the bolts on the car. It should take under two hours. (Call Tesla at 1-877-888-3752 if you've got a Roadster.)

No, people are actually buying the Tesla--and it's still made in America. Couldn't be a UAW product--though the recall is hauntinly familiar.

"No, people are actually buying the Tesla"

Yeah. If only Tesla could actually deliver any of those cars they sold.

Thousands of people sign up; handfuls get delivered until more sign up. If it looks like a ponzi scheme and soundslike a ponzi scheme...

HuffPost, why the hyperbolic headline? Did you not read the story you linked to? This is a Lotus Recall that affects what LOTUS delivers to Tesla.

Should it not be a part of the HuffPost's responsibility to treat their readers with some intellectually honesty. (You could have said, "Lotus recall affects nearly Tesla's cars." Still shocking, and not at all misleading.

As for your inside blurb about the story, it would be more appropriate to quote the story with, "This has nothing to do with Tesla's powertrain or intellectual property, it's an issue with the Lotus assembly line that builds the Roadster." And I would have preferred a comment about how the story DOESN'T say how many Lotus cars were affected. This would give us some perspective.

Shame on business insider and HuffPost on this one.

Tesla is responsible for the end product it sells.

And the story was very clear that Telsa was going to great lengths to make the required fix. I was merely pointing out my issues with how it was reported. Not very thorough, not representative of the whole story, and played for shock value, instead of reporting.

See, the competition for the big three and our Japanese friends is excruciating. It's only a matter of time now until Toyota folds!

It seems all of our news media has decided that in order to sell there products they need to draw attention to themselves by becoming hysterical!

The headline and placement of the story by HP suggests a problem that isn't there: This recall is NOT prompted by any of the electric-drive components. Some bolts need to be properly torqued. This is not a design flaw, nor a problem with electric cars in general.

Usually this is called a "quality control" problem.

Tightening some loose bolts is about as minor of a recall as it gets. It's hyperbole to say 'shocked' in this headline.

Unless your kid dies in an accident due to loose bolts.

Yeah, same reasoning that led hysterics to lament having ever launched Skylab.

Chicken Little, alive and well.
