Obama Five Guys Visit: Orders Cheeseburger (VIDEO, SLIDESHOW)

WASHINGTON — For a health food nut, President Barack Obama sure likes his burgers.

President Barack Obama made a surprise lunchtime stop at Five Guys, a fast-food restaurant in Washington.

The president ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and mustard as well as several other cheeseburgers to go. He also ordered a cheeseburger for Brian Williams, news anchor for NBC. The network was filming a day-in-the-life program at the White House.

The president snacked on peanuts, and chatted with surprised customers while he waited for his order.

There are "more problems than we thought," Obama told a man who asked him about his first months in office.

Early this month, Obama and Vice President Joe Biden took a short motorcade ride from the White House to Virginia and ordered lunch at a small independent restaurant called Ray's Hell Burger. First lady Michelle Obama recently said she snuck out to a Five Guys restaurant without anyone noticing.

Despite their burger runs, the Obamas are big believers in exercise and healthy eating.

The first lady has started a vegetable garden at the White House. Some of the crops will be served to the Obamas and to White House staff and guests, while some will be donated to a local soup kitchen.

Seeing my Prez get lunch like this reminds of a couple of lines from a Kipling poem - no not "The White Man's Burden." I'm talking about his good poem "IF"

"If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,"

Best thing is that he's carrying the bags of food he's bringing back to his staff.

What I loved about it, was how he wasn't just posing for pictures but asked people about their work and if they liked it. It shows that he's really interested in the regular folks. What was funny was how he read everyone's order from little strips of paper like any other office run. Brian Williams was sure happy about that burger wasn't he, lol.

While I admire the President's tendency to just "drop-in" average, everyday burger joints, I cannot help but worry about his safety. I just hope his SS staff are on high alert for suspicious people.

I agree, as POTUS he owes the country a reasonable set of non-dangerous behaviours and habits... sorry, comes with the job. He's no longer the community worker in Chicago... this is a bigger, more sinister stage....

I'm sure he has a pretty good security team, no need to worry.

Five Guys is a fabulous and grand experience--and am sure the Prez will love it! Over and over.
Just the greatest environment for the average American citizens to lunch on the wonderful burgers but those special fries are to die for. Find one--maybe the President will be eating beside you . . .

These impromtu lunch outings are fantastic. Nobody expects him to walk in, but everybody's thrilled to see the President of the United States being a regular guy, especially with all the problems he has to face when he gets back to the WH.

No shying away from people. It's his one-in-a-few chances to get out of the bubble he so detests.

How ironic that I opted for Friday night dinner to have a burger and fries @ Five Guys. Cause apparently the President had a taste for it for lunch on Friday afternoon!! Just to see him wait for his food and interact with the crowd just shows how (even with issues on his policies and things I don’t agree with) cool with his efforts to interact with everyday people he is!!!

How can anyone claim to care about the environment and then eat red meat? I guess the less equal farm animals are supposed to drive the hybrids (he didn't) and eat vegetarian.

he's very cool.i know that he's worrying about people having jobs or not but you can see that he was being very compassioned and concerned with folks as well just being real as a person.he can't go nowhere without folks asking for his autograph, picture and having a conversation.thats being very cool!..by the way, obama butt is getting bigger! it must be nice to be in the master bedroom taking care of business!..hahahahaha!
