NEW YORK Prince Harry is playing polo in New York and following in his mother's footsteps by helping raise money for a charity for AIDS orphans.

SEE PHOTOS OF HARRY ON FRIDAY

On the second day of his first official visit to the United States, the 24-year-old prince went to Governors Island in New York Harbor. He's playing in The Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic.

Before the match, Harry remembered Princess Diana.

The match will benefit a charity for AIDS orphans in Lesotho, Africa _ a cause for which the late princess worked.

The prince set up the charity with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, who also lost his mother at a young age. Harry says that his mother's love for New York City made the occasion "all the more poignant" for him.

Polo is fascinating! It is very physical and a tremendous sport to watch. Players swap horses every chukka or period which lasts 7 minutes. I wrote about it at my own blog www.StuffRichPeopleLove.com. The brittish should be proud of their prince at how well he represents the country.

Anyone who thinks horses don't love to play polo has not watched them at play even with no humans interacting. THey chase, herd and watch balls, other animals and even humans if you are not careful. The only cruel element in POLO is Ralph Lauren who persuaded a judge that it did not exist before he appropriated its image. I lost one of my favorite magazines which had been in circulation for more than a hundred years because Ralph Lauren sued it for using POLO in its title . And by the way polo is not just for the rich. Cowboys, kids and others all play. Anyone with horses and a broom and ball can play. Philadelphia is home to an innercity polo team featuring some rescued horses. Learn before you comment. I am in the center of the country and I am aware of polo.

'You're a commoner and I'm not!' Harry says after spitting Champaign on fellow player.

Please rid us of these 'royals'.

Polo may attract some hot elite jocks, but it is a cruel, cruel sport and should be banned.

Horses would never line up to play polo on their own without being forced to do so by unthinking, cruel human beings.

Granny foots his bills? Given him his own pad?

So I guess that's one way to get him to stop blasting "God save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols around the palace (you know Diana would be soo proud)!

Does anyone else see the irony in playing polo for charity?

Clue ~ wealthy people show up to polo matches.
Harry is a skilled polo player. Why not play for charity?

LOL! I do.

Why is Polo considered a sport anyway? The horses do all the work.

Hah! Still trying to convince people you're a "good person", Harry? Too little, too late.

Why aren't the masses attacking the polo match. This high society crap annoys me.

The money is going to charity... and polo is not all "high society". I know lots of people who have attended polo even in my hick city in the midwest.

I actually used to have a lot of fun going to polo games. Most have free admission since nobody's all that interested in it as a spectator sport except the owners and riders. That the riders manage to avoid NASCAR style pileups is amazing in itself -- since they could be deadly to both horse and rider. It was a great place to meet singles too. I didn't encounter the least bit of snobbery.

Yes, exactly. Even in tony Del Mar, admission is maybe $5, you can bring your own food and drink, they have entertainment for the kids, and it's just a lot of fun. I don't think people realize just how skilled the players and horses are.
Plus, those Argentinian players are gorgeous!
It would be a great place to meet singles.

America has its own royalty. Instead of spitting Champagne for charity we had drooling GW for death and Dubai.

I agree, he's a little snot.
I can't believe the differences between him and his brother. Clearly Harry was brought up poorly by his father and the other royals.

He seems to be doing much better than most people I know who lost
their mother's at a young age. He's a kid. Give him a break.

Wills was 15 when his mother dies, while Harry was only 12. There is a lot of difference in those 2 1/2 years of a boy's life when it comes to maturity.

I'd also bet that Diana raised these two differently, with Wills being raised to be more independent. She knew she'd have to essentially give him up to the Throne sooner than she'd like. So Diana would have clung on to her younger son a little more tightly, thinking she could have him as her baby without much interference from the Crown even when he was older.

It had to be so hard on him growing up without a mother. I remember my heart breaking for him at that funeral.
