Wall Street

deadlinehollywooddaily.com:

I'm told that screenwriter Allan Loeb (21, Things We Lost In The Fire) will hand in his second draft of the long-awaited Wall Street 2 to 20th Century Fox later this week. (Although the great Stanley Weiser and his film school pal Oliver Stone were credited as writers of the original pic, Stephen Schiff was first to script the sequel.) I heard Loeb's first draft was "so great" that Stone didn't feel the need to touch it -- yet. But no one expects the director to keep hands off on the second draft since principal photography starts on August 10th. The film's release is now planned for February 2010.

Am I the only one who doesnt get this whole Shia LeBeouf thing/person/whatever? Clearly there are better actors - who are clearly better looking ... so what gives?

Though I won't waste my money on this movie, I sure do love Michael Douglas and his state of the art mobile phone.

Shia is simply a dreary actor. the quicker Hollywood realizes this, the better off we will all be. Some of his movies might have been interesting if not for his canned bad performances. he's the same bad actor in each movie.

Shia LaBeouf is to film as American Idol is to music. Crap.

Shia's fine. I call him by his first name because I don't get the last name.

He was very good in Indiana Jones 4.

Oliver Stone certainly has a lot of real life Wall Street mischief to draw from.

I can't wait. I also think Oliver Stone should do the Bernie Madoff story. That would be a movie.

Michael Douglas was brilliant in the first one, and I can't wait to see this sequel! Gordon Gecko was a complex character, charismatic with a very sinister side, much like so many of the Wall Street brokers of today. It will be good to see the real deal again!

This is gonna bomb. Bring back Charlie and Martin Sheen. There's no need to add a post-adolescent MTV-ish vibe to this.

I agree that they should bring back the original cast. This makes no sense. Even if they want to appeal to the younger viewers who didn't see the original film they could bring in a younger person as a supporting character. But the Sheens should absolutely be in this movie.

I agree, but I don't see any reason why Labeouf can't be in it either. Maybe he can be Michel Douglas's son, or Charlie Sheen's nephew.

Where would you go with that, though? Charlie's character probably lost his broker's license as a result of the first one and very likely went back to Blue Star Airlines with Martin. Even if they did bring Charlie back, he's no longer the easily corrupted hotshot looking to score big anymore.

A good story teller could find a way though. That's the problem today. Writers don't know how to tell stories so they rely on feel good homilies or just throw in some trite eye candy or silly teen star to attract a certain demographic. They don't understand their audience are the ones who grew up with the original movie. ~ I would have Charlie Sheen's character finish his sentence in time to see his father Martin pass away. He inherits his father's share of Blue Star. The economic downturn ruins the company, so it has to convert to making green technology. Ironically, this is just in time to see Gordon Gecko paroled, who then hatches a plan of revenge while recruiting a new hot shot (LeBouf) as a proxy. Of course, there will be the current 21st century back story news issues and girlfriend(s), etc. But the real story is how LeBouf and Sheen play mental chess while Gecko acts as puppeteer. Sheen wins over the new young hotshot and teaches him the same lessons his father taught him and they both turn on Gecko and finish him off for good. And "greed" dies along with him. ~ This is too easy.

I would describe a great movie that has the original cast and LeBouf, but it won't make it on this delete-happy site.

Exactly what I was thinking. Way to ruin a movie before its even filmed.

LeBeouf? Over-over-overrated. I would have taken even a cameo from Sheen instead.
