Us Weekly Cover Features Jon & Kate For 6th Week In A Row

The June 15 issue of Us Weekly, which came out Wednesday morning, is the sixth issue in a row in which the celebrity weekly features "Jon & Kate Plus 8" stars Jon or Kate Gosselin on its cover.

It's the first time in recent memory — and perhaps ever — that the magazine has featured the same cover subjects six times in a row.

The magazine, which is widely credited with helping launch "The Hills" stars' careers by featuring Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag as celebrities before anyone else, appears to have minted new celebrity gold again in the Gosselins.

Last week, the New York Post's Keith Kelly reported that the "Jon & Kate" covers did extremely well for the magazine:

[The first cover] sold about one million copies on the newsstands, a nice boost over earlier this year, when numbers were flagging for all the celebrity titles. A year ago, Us Weekly was averaging about 860,000 copies a week on newsstands, in a far healthier economic environment.... Us milked it again on May 18 with its "Affair with a Teacher" issue, which sold 942,000. The following week the mag had the story "Kate and the Bodyguard," which sold between 850,000 and 900,000 copies. The last two issues have been even hotter, selling about one million copies for the June 1 issue, "From Mom to Monster," and between 1.2 million and 1.3 million for "Inside Jon's Prison."

Us Weekly editor Janice Min told Kelly, "There was something about the story that really resonated with readers. The thing I loved about it is that it introduced new celebrities to the world of celebrity journalism."

The current issue features the cover line, "Mommy, You Are Mean!" and leads with a bikini photo of Kate from the family's recent Jon-free beach vacation.

Over the weekend, Us senior writer Mara Reinstein blogged about her initial disgust at the magazine's decision to feature Jon & Kate.

Please folks, these kids are nothing more than the modern equivalent of the Dionne Quintuplets: with every moment videotaped for the cameras and shown pretty 24/7 every where. The show went from being fairly sweet to this train wreck because the parents seem to be greedy. Did they really NEED a 1.1 MILLION mansion? $1,600/day bodyguard for the wife? Will these poor kids ever see a PENNY of the money their childhood's earned? Not to mention, if we're seeing the birth mother on every magazine and news show or out signing autographs, and the birth father is out drinking - who IS REALLY PARENTING THOSE KIDS? Paid help. Sad, sad, sad. ALL CHILDREN IN ENTERTAINMENT - whether scripted or not - need the SAME compensations across the board in all 50 states - as California enacted, along with a new version of "Coogan's Law" to protect their earnings. FREE THE GOSSELIN EIGHT!!!!

There's a lotta people who are claiming they do not know who Jon & Kate are, but who clicked on the link and bothered to type a comment.

It is a good show in my view. I wish them years of success.

I am proud to say that I have never, ever, watched one minute of Jon and Kate, and I don't intend to start anytime soon. Likewise with any and all of the other 'reality' shows.

No but people that are huge wear swimsuits all the time - she does not look that bad. Sometimes people dress just for themselves. The majority of people in this world do not have perfect bodies - I know I do not, so why would I criticize someone else?

They are people who have no talent, so, in order to become famous, they p.imp their children on television, with no apparent chid labor laws involved, in order to become rich, famous, and garner lots of attention. They don't even seem to have a marriage anymore, but that doesn't seem to matter.
