I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Gary Radnich, the sports caster for San Francisco's KRON-TV, started bleeding onto his shirt during a recent live newscast. It's quite the scene... he said his son had been wrestling with him and "ripped my ear."

Why would this guy be embarrassed by bleeding profusely.

Typical man trying to act macho as if nothing is wrong with him.,

Uhm. It was just a little bit of blood. No one would have noticed it if he did not spend that long talking about it or if HP had not spent a WHOLE ARTICLE pointing it out.

This is a local sports guy on one of the major stations hee in the Bay Area. I remember him from a numbe rof years ago and have noticed him getting fatter and fatter and more and more red in the face. WHen I saw his picture and the headline here, I thought I was going to see him have some kind of rupture. something serious.

...it was a tiny bit of blood folks.

Where's the love?!

This is a great example of the sometimes self-imposed BS pressure we all feel to minimalize our health and well-being in order to project an image of strength and resolve. Gary is a funny and lovable sports personality whom I want to see cover Bay area sports for years to come. But as we can all witness in this video, he is a human being nonetheless. Aren't we all--and perhaps that is the lesson here.

I often wonder if Tim Russert had this same kind of "go 'til you drop" attitude manifested in his persona, and if he actually had signs he wasn't well--but ignored them? Would we all be missing him so much today?

There is nothing strong or macho about ignoring or making light of one's health. In fact, it's a virtue. Let's give Gary a break, and the next time we are injured, or see someone who is--remember this moment and be gentle.

With the headline I thought maybe blood would be gushing out of his carotid artery or something, and he'd be gasping within an inch of is life. What a disappointment. Not really, I'm glad the guy's okay.

Very, very strange segment. Didn't the station keep liquid bandaid on hand for such incidents?

There are band-aids less than five feet in front of him.

Gary's notoriously unprofessional and typically walks on the set with less than ten seconds to air and mic up. Once again he got caught unprepared when they went to air.

i think that this a classic example of how employers are able to bully their employees' into showing up to work inan condition. Even a fool knows that blood flowing from anopen wound in the workpace, is an automatic trip home, if not to the hosptal.

Chawnyce you have GOT to be joking! All this guy needs is a bandaid. As for the announcer who said blood was flowing freely I would hate to see him describing a stubbed toe to a 911 operator.
I doubt most people would notice it if it had not been mentioned. Contaminated blood can spread infection if it enters through an open wound (cut or graze) or a mucous membrane (eyes). Unbroken skin is a complete barrier to blood borne diseases and sitting at least a foot away reduces the risk even further. To worry that somehow bugs will fly off his shirt and kill everyone in the studio suggests an inability to keep things in proportion. This guy obviously takes (or should be taking) some sort of blood thinner (every man over fifty should take a half an asprin daily) and I would imagine his blood pressure is not particularly low. A minor cut has been bumped and a few drops of blood have found their way onto his shirt. Good Grief!
There are plenty cases of bullying employers who need to be called to account, by suggesting this is one you make it harder for those with real cause for complaint to be heard.

This guy needs a brand makeover: image, fashion, fitness and health.

Gary Radnich is the most entertaining thing in the Bay Area media and an altogether "good guy". I love the Huffingtonpost, but I'm embarrassed for the writers of some of these comments. I hope and prey that we don't share the same politics, since I'd hate to be part of any group with no sense of humor.

My mother tells me she knew a man who had a cow step on his ear once. I've been trying to figure that one out for years.

I'd like to see O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity or any of those other fox a-holes start bleeding through the eyes during a live broadcast. That would make me smile.

When did he wrestle with his son...probably hours ago, and he's still bleeding with a cut?...

He could have some blood coagulation issues there...

Could be liver problems. He might consider a standard liver panel.
