Stephen Colbert Is In Iraq! (VIDEO)

Colbert In Iraq

Huffington Post   First Posted: 7/6/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Stephen Colbert has deployed to Iraq for a USO tour entitled "Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando." He will perform his shows in front of the troops for the next week, according to Comedy Central.

While there, Colbert will host Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq Barham Saleh and General Ray Odierno, commander of the Multi-National Forces in Iraq, among others. The show is taking place at an undisclosed military base in conjunction with the USO, and promises to boast "shout outs from notable figures in society."

We can only assume one of these "notable figures" will be Sarah "I Ruined The Surprise" Palin, who recently tweeted:

"Getting ready to tape shout-out for our awesome US troops serving overseas! Will be on 'Colbert Report' next month, broadcast from Iraq..."

Colbert prepared the following video to reveal his super secret plans and ensure no one would know about them. Proceeds from sales of his Iraq shows on iTunes will go to benefit the USO.

Thanks Stephen!
Just watched the first episode in it's entirety....boot camp was the best!

Love how you showed up in Fort Jackson, SC and especially like your ID.

I'm sure the warriors in Iraq appreciate your coming.

We DVR every single Colbert Report faithfully just in case we miss the original broadcast.

Keep 'em coming!

He has a cable show right? If he becomes popular could he get a broadcast show on regular TV?

He's EXTREMEMLY popular, even though many of the people who watch his show do not do so on cable, but rather on the internet!

Colbert's charity efforts have raised over $100k for veterans and their families, now he's in Iraq to boost morale. He may goof with the talk, but the really walks the walk. Unlike some right wing blowhards we know.

Is that really a nice way to talk about the other side?

Although I don't watch Colbert (it interferes with other shows that I watch at the time....) he's a REALLY funny man who really DOES care about the troops! Go Colbert!!!

Colbert gives so much money to the troops, too bad the guys he satirizes still keep all theirs to themselves. Whatever happened to the waterboarding Insanity was going to endure for charity? Big mouths, little action.

Gosh, these seem like personal attacks against an entire groups of people. You know, objectifying people you don't know, treating them as an abstract category that can be diminished, is historically very dangerous.

Actually, he's not generalizing a group of people. He's talking about specific features of specific people. In other words, Rush, BillO, etc.... are not walking the walk, and as such DESERVE to be satirized!

I think most of the troops that were entertained by Colbert - just might have been happy to be in Iraq! But like I said - put him in a burka and maybe he could get hooked up!

Colbert saluting reminds me ..."He's all hat and no cattle". Isn't illegal for
civilians to salute while wearing uniforms? Should be 'cuz it's disgraceful.
My flag remains upside down in 2009.

"All hat and no cattle...."

No, you're actually confusing Stephen with Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. You're confusing Stephen with people who claim to care about the troops, but could care less.
