For reasons known only to him, President Obama avoids certain Bible verses:
Proverbs 19:10 (NIV): "It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury - how much worse for a slave to rule over princes!"
Also Proverbs 30:22 (NIV) which says that the earth cannot bear up under "a servant who becomes king."

The Obama had "date night" before he became president and required SS protection. Are people really so clueless that they don't get that date night is about two people supposedly in a committed relationship making time for one another? It has nothing to do with lavish spending or high maintenance, it is about connecting, nurturing and remember why you fell in love with one another in the first place.
From some of the comment it is easy to see; why the divorce rate is so high, why children are being medicated so they can deal with their home lives, why so many people turning to drugs to get through the day, when we find something ugly, bad/wrong about a married couple having a "date night" we are a lost country. The evidence is in the responses found here and other posts about "date night".

Some may interpret this date night as a madly in love couple but another interpretation and perhapes more accurate one may be that the FL is high maintenance and needs lots of attention. As I see Obama drugging off to these dinners with all the attending security details I think what a hassle....He probably would like a quiet homecooked meal so he can go back to his office where he should be sorting out the banking mess which he has still not done.....

If the message to the American public is to go out to dinner on saturday night I wonder if they are aware of the economic mess many Americans are in because they spent decades going out to dinner on their cards....and are deeply in debt and would be better off making a good meal at home with family and friends. Frugality is in whether the FL or President are aware. Home cooking is in. The 'heady days of overspending and over eating have come home to haunt us and the message of going out and spending is out of date.

High maintenace? Are you kidding? They are young, in love and want and deserve a break from the pressures of their lives. They are fabulous role models for our country.

Most Americans who want to prioritize to have a date night will prioritize despite the economic downturn. It comes down to would you rather have a six pack with the boys watching ESPN or going out for something simple with your partner.

The argument that the Obama's shouldn't do this because we're in experiencing financial difficulties is tenuous at best.....and the last time I checked he actually had a paying job with some savings in the bank.

I don't think the message here is, "Take your wife to dinner and a Broadway show just like the President" I also don't think that women should sit back and wait for their husbands to take the initiative. Spending some quality time with your spouse seems like common sense to me.

I don't think that focusing on family is a bad thing.

I think people are grossly missing the point of the Obamas' date night. It's not about doing the big and lavish things--and the very reason the Obamas' date nights are lavish is because he simply cannot travel like normal people--it's about taking the time out to nurture your relationships.

The President has been a week end Dad for many years, and years ago they marriage almost thorn to pieces. They have put together their family and put in a permanent prescription for a lasting relationship. Their date night is nothing new, for they have been doing this for years. Now everybody is paying attention to something old for them. Last year the Media scold the President for taking off the Campaign to spent time with his family on Valentine's day. They have never seen that before, for many President doesn't put their family first. Now, it's even worse, because living above the pressure filled bubble, they want to get out from under that, and spent time away with fresh ambiance, and I don't blame them at all.
