Virginia Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Vie For Black Vote

In a race without a clear front-runner, state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds (Bath), former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe and former state delegate Brian Moran (Alexandria) have touted endorsements from civil rights leaders and black newspapers, mailed thousands of fliers and competed on radio for support in areas that are not a natural base for any of the three.

Any black preacher or journalist who endorses Terry the ra.ce.bait.er needs to be publicly taken to account. I'm a NYer who has a few relatives in VA, none of them will vote for that giant p..o..s.

Politicians are an amazing lot! They do, say, promise anything for a vote. There's has to be something fundamentally wrong with promising a black audience that you will fight for the automatic restoration of voting rights to convicted felons when you would never consider saying it to a white audience. The implication is rather telling!

First place you go to drum up the black vote when you're spent a good part of your political career demonizing them- the church. Sit in the pulpit, pretending to be part of their religious base, pander to their value set. Tell them you share their values. Great lip service.

Yet we were'nt good enough for your votes in the last election. We were voting for someone because of the color of their skin, not their qualifications. You know, I keep hearing that argument purported by white conservatives; said with the myopic lack of hindsight that neglects what has been SOP in politics forever- that white is somehow right. We(minorities) can't lead, but must follow. And if we don't vote for you, and the opposition is black, latino, or asian, that makes us racists.

For the last time, NO! It does, however, make you a loser.

This is the very reason I left the Democratic party years ago. The party takes African American voters for granted and think they are entitlement to our votes!
