Volvo S40 DRIVe: Greenest Car Of The Year
Guardian:
It may not be a streamlined hybrid, a futuristic electric vehicle or a snazzy biofuel car, but a distinctly boxy diesel Volvo has won What Car? magazine's award for the year's greenest car.

ALL OF THESE CARS ARE GOOD BUT NOT ENOUGH!
Right now is the best time to build our future for transportation. Engineers of big3 could solve all tasks during 5 years and give first orders to buiders after first 6 month:
SMALL CARTS (10 KG), WHICH ARE MOVING AUTOMATICALLY BY ROAD ON THE ROADS WITHOUT INTERSECTION.
SECOND AND THIRD FLOORS OF NEW HOUSES AND BUSYNESSES COULD BE A PART OF THESE ROAD.
Dear gjohntheterrible, Jack Welch maybe was the last great manager who understand invention spirit of his Engineers. He came to management from engineering, production.
Right now all managers using his Six Sigma tools without understanding spirit of invention.
Usualy they are from management background by education.
This is reason in my opinion why we are loosing in number of invention to Japan and others world countries.
We need change this situation, because new style of management trying to use old direction, which are part of yesterday well checked solutions. It is good for nation, which decide to be second. It is cheaper and it is wrong.
Wrrrrooooooooommmm... this is the troll's thread today!

I just returned from Spain where we rented the wagon version of this car and it was terrific. Great mileage, plenty of power, quiet (you would not have known it was a diesel). In addition there were lots of interesting small cars....many from Ford, Opel (GM?).
I would buy a diesel in a minute if they were available here and I wasn't afraid the government would do something to the tax on the fuel or emission test them off the road (I live in CA).
Great Car Volvo
Where is the HEMP DIESEL for it?
Volvo - Boxy, but Good
Don't look for it here in the United States because it is a diesel. Why is this? Because the oil companies want to keep clean diesel technology out of the United States. This car would get better mileage than a Toyota Prius or Honda Insight. Volvo is a great car, roomy and safe. It's too bad that Ford didn't know how to market them to the U.S. customer.
The main reason we don't see more european diesels in the US is that most don't meet the US more stringent tier II diesel emissions regulations.
US car buyers got a bad taste for diesels based on the noisy, smoky, clunky, poor performing , maintenance intensive hogs sold in the 80's
And I'm sure all the diesels on the road today meet tier 2 diesel standards.
You mean Donald Sutherland voice overs blathering about soul-changing experiences didn't do it for you? When it stopped being the college professors durable pseudo-Mercedes and became a leather-interiored psychic experience, they lost me. Had a cloth interior 244 back in the '70s. Not gonna happen with the current offering.
This award just won the most nonsensical award of the day award.
