'Pregnant Man' Gives Birth Again

ABC News:

Thomas Beatie, the controversial "pregnant man," gave birth to his second child, a healthy baby boy, early this morning, "20/20" has learned.

Sources close to the couple say that it was a "natural childbirth" and that they have not yet decided on the boy's name. Beatie's wife, Nancy, will be breastfeeding their son, as she did with their daughter, Susan Juliette, who was born last June.

I can't believe the constant ridiculousness surrounding these stories. Mr. Beatie has made the necessary changes to live life as a man, but values family and having children with his partner so much that he's willing to suffer the socially-imposed cognitive dissonance of continuing a pregnancy while living male. He is to be commended for his devotion to his partner -- who cannot bear children, even though she is biologically female and female-identified -- and his family. This can't be an easy process.

I think that Mr. Beatie, his wife, his extended family, and his medical care providers are to be congratulated for their work and their commitment to their life-affirming & pro-choice ideals. I hope the Beaties have a happy life together, all four of them.

OKay, a lot of the comments here are really immature and disrespectful. The fact that "this is a woman" doesn't need to be repeated over and over again. We all know this. Mr. Beatie was born a female, but for whatever reasons, he has chosen to identify as a male. I can't imagine this was an easy choice.

Sure, it's not a medical miracle to have a female give birth, but it is a rare occurrence to have a self-identified transgender person give birth. I think it must take some courage to do this, whether I can understand the whole situation or not.

Our world is full of so much pain and grief, I don't see why we can't allow human beings who are different some dignity and respect when they want to experience the magic and joy of parenthood. They haven't done anything wrong in my mind. It's like people judging me for being a single mom, or thinking I can't do it all on my own. If we are not directly involved in an experience, we don't really have the right to criticize so much.

I wish this family the best.

I understand what you are saying but the media is promoting this as some kind new scientific thing. There is nothing special about this person having a baby. I have a friend who is a lesbian who has children and she looks more male than this "pregnant man". No one cared when she her kids and there are many lesbians that look like men or live their lives as men who have their own children. I think this family went to the media to get attention.

Yeah, I see what you mean, Bexstarr. From what I've read of this family, it seems that they were shunned and received death threats and ill-will way before they sought media outlets. They want to speak out, so they can speak for themselves. I think they are just a family trying to do their best and it's not necessarily a medical miracle or the freak show that the media wants it to be. But now that they are out there and being exposed, I think it's best to live and let live. And, if they ever did show signs of going Jon and Kate on the media, I'd definitely be critical of their motives as well. The majority of the comments I am seeing are about how weird this is, or how this is really a woman, etc. I think it's an interesting dilemma, and I hope this family can find ways to make their lives work together, especially for the kids.

I'd rather defend people who are doing nothing wrong, than to agree with rude, aggressive, non human beings who judge people based on their family choices. Actually there are different definitions of gender depending on context. It's not simply about sex organs. For example, if a man were fully castrated (or say had the lower half of his body blown off), we still recognize that person as male, the lack of male sex organs not withstanding.
