Norm Coleman Ordered To Pay Al Franken $95K By Minnesota Court

06/10/09 06:47 PM ET   AP

Norm Coleman

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Republican Norm Coleman must pay Democrat Al Franken $94,783 to cover court costs for his appeal of Minnesota Senate election results.

A Ramsey County court administrator entered the judgment Wednesday. It results from the two-month trial that ended with Coleman 312 votes short of Franken.

Minnesota law required Coleman to cover some of Franken's court costs because the race's outcome didn't change. The judgment excludes Franken's attorney fees.

The men have spent $50 million so far on their campaigns and legal fight over the November election. That's more than double the cost of the 2002 race when Coleman captured what had been a Democratic seat.

The Minnesota Supreme Court hasn't said when it will rule on Coleman's appeal.

How can it possibly take a full month for the Minnesota Supreme Court to render a decision? This is totally absurd. Seat Al Franken NOW!

You know...after all this time, I really wish they would decide on this issue. I think that this is an unprecedented amount of time taken to seat a Senator. I feel badly for Minnesotans.

BTW I am a big fan of Al's work with SNL. Truth is stranger than fiction.

The Grand Obstreperous Perverts should be required to pay all of Al Franken's legal fees and costs in this fiasco.

I'm so pleased to know that Norm "Choppers" Coleman will be forced to literally pay for being a sore lose and a malevolent politician.

Amazing how fast Coleman was to tell Franken to concede on November 4th even before all the votes were counted, but now that all the votes are counted and Coleman has lost he is willing to keep wasting money and have no representation for the state he supposedly loves so much.

Minnesota has be under-represented for 5 months now. If the outcome is Coleman wins: I would start action to have him recalled because he obviously does not care about the state of Minnesota only his own political interest.

Coleman needs to get out and try again. The supreme court has ruled and the people in the state of Minnesota have spoken.

Actually, MN has been underrepresented for more than 7 months, but who's counting?

Coleman was the Senator until Jan, so it hasn't been 7 months.

"the races outcome of 312 votes didn't change". Except for the original 500 vote lead that Coleman had in Nov.

What's up with the Minnesota Supreme Court? Why have they not expedited this obviously most important case and ruled already? What left is there to say or argue? Are the MN supremes wanting their 15 minutes of fame, too?

Is that the true and total amount for purposely blocking the seat of a duly elected Senator????
