How about some real world calculations showing how much area of fresh water ponds it's going to take to provide diesel to power a society that looks anything like ours?

Frankly I don't expect this to happen, the alt-energy crowd has a long history of ignoring physics for feel-good green hype, and emotion rather than logic.

Sometime in October 2008 they few an air ship using the algae synthetic diesel, there is video on-line. There was a republican senator that showed up for the demonstration, not a single news report was done on this historic event (amazing - shocking).
