I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Could Leonardo have painted a version of the iconic Mona Lisa in the nude? As comical as that might sound, a painting that recently surfaced and is on exhibition at the Museo Ideale in Vinci, the painter's birthplace, suggests this might just be the case.

From Discovery:

The newly revealed painting, hidden for almost a century within the wood wall of a private library, shows a portrait of a half-naked woman with clear links to the famous (and clothed) Mona Lisa.[...]

The lady in the portrait does not exactly resemble the original Mona Lisa, but there is little doubt it has parallels with the painting hanging at the Louvre museum in Paris.

It is, according to the museum's website, the first time the work has been exhibited. Take a look below to see for yourself.

Video showcasing the exhibition.

Except for the semi-nudity, it looks like one of the paintings in the elevator of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.

Looks like an original on which the Mona Vanna may have been based upon.

This is a fake. And Leonardo DaVinci was not into women anyway. He preferred boys, as did many of his colleagues.

Actually if you knew much about Da Vinci's history, consider Salai's painting Mona Vanna. It would be quite logical that he based it upon this painting.

This is either a great find - or a great hoax.

Or a less talented, period student of the great da Vinci.

I had no idea that Leonardo's subject, Lisa del Giocondo, was so ... ummmhh ... perky.

I've always disliked the word 'perky'... it brings to mind only cheer-leader types and morning people.

I take it we're talking about a different "Mona Lisa"?

This couldn't be Leonardo's work, she looks like she has breast implants.

ever seen any of Michaelangelo's sculpture? da Vinci was gay, and often times used men's bodies to model female figures.

It comes as no surprise that the breasts look unnatural.

45 years ago (I am *really, really* old!), I had an art history professor at UC Irvine who argued that the original Mona Lisa was a nude study. The background (hills and valleys) was her body.

I'm no art expert but that does not look like Leonardo's style. The figure looks too mannish. She looks like a linebacker.

Actually, if you've studied Leonardo's other female works, especially his statues, his female bodies almost invariably look "mannish".

I'm sorry. I don't believe that is the work of Leonardo. It may be a nice duplication of his style but it is, quite frankly, ugly. More than likely it was painted by a student of Leonardo rather than the master himself.
