There's a new couple in the White House and seemingly overnight our nation's capital a town known for filibusters, not fun is suddenly a magnet for Hollywood starlets, reality TV shows and high-profile idealists wanting to get in on a little high-minded action. Here's a look at some of those beguiled by the Beltway:

After splitting from The Office nice guy John Krasinski, Parks & Recreation star Rashida Jones, 33, has been hanging with President Obama's 28-year-old speechwriter Jon Favreau. "It's not serious," a source reveals, but they are an item. Meanwhile, taking a break from her doctor duties at the Oceanside Wellness Center, Private Practice star Kate Walsh, 41, has been spotted cuddling with another young administration hotshot, Sean Smith. How's this for a title? Smith, 38, is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

When are people gonna wake up and do something about the national tragedy/travesty that is the greater D.C. area? I suppose most people don't really care, though. The rest of us have representation in Congress after all!

First off, go read a book. The HIV rate in DC is high however compare it to Baltimore or NYC for the population of people. We also have the highest rate of education of any metropolitan city in the country. There is more to DC than you on TV.

Thanks! I couldn't have put it better myself. I LOVE DC. I moved here from Chicago. Guess I was two years ahead of the Obama family. Totally right about the education rate. It seems everyone I meet here has at least a college degree. It's kind of nice. Raises the bar.

How is it that Rashida Jones and Kate Walsh are starlets? As I recall it that term referred to young women back in the day who might have had a few minor roles in movies and mostly showed up at film premieres. A few would go on to be major stars, like Marilyn Monroe.

Both Walsh and Jones, who are over thirty, have their own television shows and are respected actresses. I think the term starlet is is ridiculous; I have seen it applied to actresses like Scarlet Johnansson and Maggie Gyllenhaal, for God's sake. It is sexist and anachronistic and should be retired. After all, is there a male equivalent?
