(LONDON - Associated Press) A British pup had a narrow flush with disaster after his 4-year-old master decided to give him a bath in the toilet. Daniel Blair was quoted as telling Britain's Daily Mirror tabloid that he tried to clean the muddy 1-week-old cocker spaniel because he was muddy, and he flushed him down the drain.

His mother Alison was quoted as saying she thought the dog was dead, but a drainage firm was able to locate the beleaguered animal in a pipe 20 yards away from the house using specialist camera gear.

Pictures of the wet, frightened-looking puppy trapped in a pipe were posted to the firm Dyno-Rod's Web site and broadcast on British television Monday .

The company says the dog is now fine.

This dog should be glad it doesn't have to share a home with this kitten:

Way better than a kid in the drain story.

I can't believe it, how did a puppy get flushed down the toilet, he was very lucky, what is wrong with the owners, do they not care. I just can't stand families like that because when you take on the responsibility of taking care of an animal, some people don't care. For example, some people abuse their dog or cat and I like that someone should do the same to the person, so they could feel what the animal may feel. How can a person give a bath to a puppy in a toilet, Then flush him down the toilet, I guess some people shouldn't have pet.

Did you not read the part where it said that a four year old did it?

a week-old puppy should be handled very little; and especially NOT by a 4-year old! his parents are horribly irresponsible and I hope they get a million dollar bill to pay...

Very lucky little puppy. I hope both the boy and his parents learned something valuable here and parents elsewhere are sitting up and taking notice of this. Small children should not be left alone with small animals. Who knows what the kid might have done next had the puppy not gone down the toilet: decide to dry his fur in the microwave or something? Seriously, a well-meaning child might think this would be a good way to dry a small wet animal. Parents are responsible for their children and the safety of their pets to avoid some awful tragedy. This was one lucky puppy and little boy.

What's really strange is that the puppy was supposed to be on the air france flight.

Well, I would hope the parents have learned something from this as well.

No child that young should be left alone with an animal. Besides possible harm to the puppies, often mother dogs will bite people who take their puppies from them. It isn't safe for the child or the animals. They are lucky it was only the puppy who was almost killed.

What I'd like to know is how much taxpayer money, and what resources were wasted on saving this animal? If this was a human we should do everything possible to save them, but an animal; c'mon.
09:08 PM on 06/17/2009
First of all it happened in Britain. Secondly, a private drainage company rescued the animal, not the Royal Family. So what's all this yammering about British taxpayers and dogs? if you really want to complain about British taxes, complain that the Brits are spending millions each year maintaining the Royal Family and all their palaces.

And besides, even if it had died in there, it would have to be removed or clog up the sewer system.

If a puppy can survive the trip down the drain, why can't a cell phone?

Think back to when you were 4 yrs old and tell me you didn't do something really stupid, thinking you were doing something good or right----A 4 yr old does not have the commom sense to know any better yet!~
It was an unfortunate accident, and let's thank goodness it came out as good as it did.
Why does everyone want to blame and condemn anyone and everyone for any infracture these days? Have we gotten that hateful and judgemental out of true rightnessness or just because we enjoy finding blame with someone but ourselves?
The puppy is fine, the child has learned his lesson and now aquires the skill to know better and think twice before he does something stupid again. Leave the kid alone!
And by the way, mom's can't be everywhere all the time. Stop and think about the accidents unintended that have happened to you or your kids because you didn't have 10 arms and eyes to watch them all.

Seconded!

Honestly, I was just cleaning the bathroom, ten minutes tops, and when I checked the kids (they were too quiet, if you get my meaning), I asked my older son, "Why is your baby brother all yellow?" "Don't worry, Mom," he said. "It's washable marker."

That was years ago. This weekend, it took three people to watch my son's friend's son in our backyard. Finally the little guy's mom decided on a compromise -- dandelions have lots of vitamins, right?
