I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Artie Lange

In the first episode, Joe Buck become the butt of his own show's jokes.

Howard Stern regular Artie Lange "hijacked" Joe Buck Live, according to the New York Times' Richard Sandomir.

SEE UPDATE BELOW: HBO WON'T HAVE LANGE BACK!

When Buck, a Fox sportscaster who took over on HBO when Bob Costas signed with the MLB Network, announced that celebrity gossip site TMZ was his favorite website, Lange shot back: "Joe, TMZ is your favorite website? What's your second, suckingcock.com?"

In a move decried as homophobic, Lange then let his wrist fall limp, put on an accent, and said, "I'm on TMZ constantly, did you see what Angelina was wearing today? What the fuck, how about going to a sports website for Christ's sake?"

Lange even admitted to being a homophobe, to which Buck responded, "clearly."

"As a Giants fan, and a well-known homophobic," Lange said, "it's like a white trash gift from god that the fucking Cowboys have a quarterback whose last name rhymes with homo."

Lange then took it to Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's girlfriend, Jessica Simpson.

"And he's dating a fat chick!" he said. "Jessica Simpson started out looking like Jessica Simpson, now she looks like Chris Farley from those Gap sketches."

Moments later, Lange started knocking Buck's hosting abilities.

"Good segue," Lange said, mocking Buck's attempt to move discussion forward. "You're a regular Bob Costas."

"I wanna be working construction by next Thursday, I hate show business," Lange said.

"You're on your way," Buck replied.

"So are you!" Lange shot back.

Later, as Buck attempted to rush Lange through a story about Buck's father, Lange said, "sorry to ruin your fucking great show."

"I appreciate the apology, because you have," Buck said.

Finally, near the end of the segment, Lange takes out a cigarette and an increasingly earnest Buck yelled at him not to light it.

"If you do that, sir! Sir, you cannot do that," Buck shouted.

"I won't light it," Lange said.

"You think I care about you smoking a cigarette after what you just laid out here?" Buck said, leading Lange to say, "Fuck it, let's do it bro" and light up. "No, don't, please!" Buck said.

"Say what you mean," Lange said back.

Update: HBO has said "never again" to Artie Lange.

The New York Post's Michael Starr reports that HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg has added Lange to his blacklist:

"He can go do as many Howard Stern shows as he likes . . but he will no longer appear on HBO Sports or 'Joe Buck Live,' " HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg told The Post yesterday.

"We don't have any interest in his world."...

"He wasn't who we thought he was," Greenburg said. "We thought we were going to have an entertaining and kind of comical look at sports and celebrity -- but we didn't expect the guy to hijack the segment for his own personal gain."

Geez Joe, if you would just calm down the show would be a lot better... Instead you're going to be off the air in a couple of months with that attitude...

I love Artie Lange. Not in that way.

Everybody wins in this situation.

Artie said his book sales have gone through the roof since the show.

NOBODY would have been talking about Joe Buck's show if this didn't happen.

Joe Buck, HBO and Artie all got MAJOR publicity. No one is as pissed off as they seem...This is simple hollywood economics. Publicity = money. I can't believe this is such a shock to everyone...

I watched this show, and I think that this nonstory is utterly ridiculous. Buck knew what was in store for him...I mean, it's not like Artie wasn't being himself. Some people really need to thicken their skins up a bit....it was shtick, for crying out loud. (Not to mention the fact that it was on HBO, not Nickelodeon). Get a grip, seriously.

That......was.....so....GREAT! I love watching Joe Buck squirm. Payback for all of the times he has made me squirm during a football game. Go back to baseball. No wait, just go.

folks HBO is acting like they're mad but they're not. this is the kickoff of a lame talk show and they need all the press they can get. they'll probably make up in 2 months when the show starts to tank and bring artie back on.

I love Lange because he points out just how hypocritical everyone (including most of the COMMENTERS here!) is in showbusiness. They bring him on to be himself and then they trash him afterwards like they didn't expect it...don't they know who he is??? I love how he cuts through all the superficial BS to get down to what really interests/bothers people...no one is interested in a "playful" comedic discussion about sports...its been done before. People need to get over themselves and see him for who he is and not expect him to bend over and kow-tow to mainstream media obsessed with PC rhetoric...it is HBO after all!

also: having class is in no way "PC rhetoric." therein lies your problem.

Artie has been saying on the Stern show that Joe Buck prior to the show starting said for Artie to "give it to him".

Couldn't agree more. Dead on.

The only thing funny about this 'story' is that HBO said Lange 'was not who they thought he was'...I'm not a Stern fan, but even I knew who the foul mouthed and NOT FUNNY Lange was.

Artie Lange: No matter how many times you wash his mouth out with soap and water, his mouth still has 'ring around the collar.'

The problem is not his language. It's what he does with it, which is nothing. At least nothing funny. And isn't "funny" what it's all about?

He ruined How ard's show. Bring back Jack e.

Jackie left because he was greedy....not because Howard wanted to get rid of him. The guy got what he deserved, in my opinion. Maybe he'll just keep pumping out horrible comedy albums with his wife's help. Ugh.

What it really means is that Joe Buck's show doesn't matter to anyone.

You don't hand the keys to a Ferrari to someone to run an errand for you and expect them to follow the speed limit do you? Michael Irvin ,himself a contributor to the "boring" part of the show , said while being interviewed by Colin Cowherd that noone should speak to or hire Artie anymore.........hey Michael should Mike Vick be able to return to the NFL?.......thought so!!......Shame on Colin for letting Michael off the hook on that one.....guess he was star struck.
Artie was being Artie which was what they asked for and then they throw him under the bus.......Joe Buck owes Artie a public appology.
And Colin.....quit being a suck up to sports personalities and ask the tough questions!!
