President Barack Obama had a lengthy interview on CNBC today to talk Wall Street, health care, and his proposed financial industry reforms. The President was interrupted, however, by a pesky fly.

During a break in the interview, the President made quick work of the pest. "That was pretty impressive wasn't it?" President Obama said. "I got the sucker."

I make the innocent observation that flies like to circle dung.

It would have been more impressive had he then paused the interview to wash his hands.

PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

Damn PETA will probably be up in arms over the cruelty. I'd like to send them over to the Red Sea so they can play with the pirates...

When did the fly become an animal? Thought it was a insect... but do they have a katcha a human humane catcher for Dana the cream puff Rorbacher?

How about viruses? Catch and release?

I have been a longstanding member of PETA & a Buddhist. I was thoroughly sickened by this display unprovoked violence toward this helpless creature. We must learn to get along w/our exoskeletal friends or we shall never reach a higher plane of existence.

They say 10,000 flies can't be wrong.
04:15 PM on 06/17/2009
When you think about it, this is really a metaphor for the state of politics right now. The GOP is like a swarm of flies buzzing around the president trying to get in his face. He just swat's them down one by one.
12:40 AM on 06/18/2009
No I'm sure he is using a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher. He wants all his constituents happy.
02:21 AM on 06/18/2009
I voted for him, and I'd rather see him kill those flies bare hands than to use that flimsy bug catching device. This is only a fly, not some butterfly or bees that are dieing out.
01:34 PM on 06/18/2009
I was waiting for him to snap his fingers and a team of czars break thru the door with fly swatters.

That fly was a Fox News reporter. Their hiring standards are pretty low, almost like the Army recruiters these days.
