If we go back 100 years we would find a wide assortment of propulsion systems used on cars. We had electric cars, along with street outlets in cities to charge them. We even had steam powered cars. All of these different propulsion systems were pushed aside and gasoline and diesel piston engines became the engines of choice. This dominance occurred for the simple reason that these engines were the most reliable at the lowest cost.

Perhaps this is because there IS only one future Auto fuel, Electricity. Fossil fuels have ran out, at least for expansion fleet use, there is no such thing as "clean diesel" just as there is no such thing as "clean coal" .. and bio fuels might keep the airlines flying, but will not supply the worlds auto's.

So, prepare for an electric car future, where you charge at home and for 45 minutes every 4 highway hours *(about as long as it takes you for lunch).

We have the technology
We have the fuel source
and we have the need
There is no other alternate fuel that is even close.

And people know.

if we converted our fleet to diesel and liquified natural gas, we wouldn't need to import any oil, and our carbon emissions would drop dramatically
