Interviewer Stones Jack Black And Michael Cera; Makes Mouth-Music With David Cross (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/20/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:30 PM ET

Matt Zaller has been known to go to great lengths to put his interviewees at ease. He stripped for Matthew McConaughey and made fart noises for Paul Rudd, but in the following interview with the cast and director of "Year One," Zaller (of the "National Lampoon") takes a more antagonistic approach. He stones Michael Cera and Jack Black, tells Harold Ramis he wore a jock strap to protect his junk from the "Ghostbusters" director, and challenges David Cross about religion. At the end of the video you can hear Cross say, "that was odd," which pretty much sums it up.

He takes comedians who have a schtick for being wacky, and who ham it up everywhere they go, and subtly shows us that they're not very wacky after all. His dead pan humor is more off-kilter than their ridiculous shenanigans. And that's why these interviews are brilliant.

This is "comedy?" (side note: Jack Black, soon to join Mike Myers, Will Ferrell, and, of course, Martin Short on the, "we've seen enough one-trick ponies!" list!)

Couldn't agree more!

That was so lame. I can't believe how unfunny that was.

It,s even funny to me here on Wall Street, where not much is funny right now. Sadly

Matt Zaller is awesome in bed. His interviews often leave the interviewee's laughing harder than the audience. It's good to see such an attractive man do such oddball comedy. Look up his other interviews on YouTube.

I've never seen the method of an interviewer stoning a celebrity work so well as a form of intimidation. The parting words of David Cross was the funniest moment.

Wow. Maybe I shouldn't have watched that at work. Laughing WAY too loudly.

Zaller never ceases to amaze me. You can be sure he will connect every time and leave you wanting more.

When David Cross says "That's odd" you know you've done something right. Good work!
