Bruno In Amsterdam: A Red Thong For The Red Light District (PHOTOS)

Sacha Baron Cohen brought Bruno to Amsterdam on Friday.

He transformed the city's red light district into a pink light district as part of promotional activities for the Dutch premiere of the movie. He arrived on a jetski in a cropped suit with his red thong showing, climbed to shore and posed with nearly-nude male models.

This follows his Spanish, London and Paris premieres.

Is it just me, or do any other gay men find this Bruno character remotely offensive.? Should the black community bring back Rockchester or Amos and Andy? Why did Blacks find these characters offensive? After all, it was just for laughs? Every gay stereotype is wrapped up into this one character. While the gay community often fights to dispell this stereotype, it seems to be alive and well. Nobody is threatened by a big nelly queen with streaked hair and a lisp. And while "whats his name" who is playing Bruno, will undoubtly go to his next character portrayal, the rest of us will be struggling once again, to overcome the stereotype... or play into it. Bruno is the "step and fetch" character for the gay community.. And while its all in supposed good fun, the actor can walk away from this character, the rest of us cant.

Now, I have a sense of humor, but these antics do not seem to be an inside joke, humor in bad taste can be devastatingly funny if it speaks to something true. One certainly looks at Bruno, but it all seems such an overt publicity stunt and now is tired.

I know! I thought the same. "Borat" was fat and hairy, and "Bruno" is seems hairless with a well toned body.

I guess if he is really going to fool people, he has to go ALL THE WAY with each character. I bet he gained some weight for borat, and spent ALOT of time in the gym to get ready for Bruno.

lighten up folks !!! I am a gay male and I just see him as a brilliant comedian . He takes Bruno to an impossible level and all in good fun. I don't feel he's mocking us at all . If anything he is showing homophobia via the other side.. besides we can laugh about life WITH him. He's not laughing at us. And yeah , I am sure black face is next ... he shows the absurdity of stereotyping . It's intelligent as hell.

I would like to point out for some of the angry people here that this promotional campaign has been using models who work in gay porn (both soft core and otherwise) and has been specifically recreating the dress, hair, lighting, poses, and shooting style one specifically finds within the most popular producers of said materials. It's honestly the most open embrace of gay-specific media to ever hit the mainstream. Whether or not the portrayal is stereotypical, it is a dead-on recreation of the product that gay producers and photographers are currently creating. I think they've been very careful to keep the satire as friendly as possible. In fact I think the brilliant thing about this entire project is that it deliberately taking its gay-friendliness to an extreme that makes the overall straight population uncomfortable, a tactic wholly in keeping with Borat's subversiveness.

As for the accusations about exploiting sex workers, as anyone actually familiar with mainstream American gay porn will tell you, it is easily the safest, cleanest, and most respectful (of the models) segment of the American porn industry. These are grown up men who like what they're doing and are well compensated for their work. There are controversial niche market exceptions, and some European product can be an entirely different story, but those aren't the men you're seeing in these promos.

Anyone watching porn is little bit gay curious and not all that offended about seeing the genitals of their same sex in porn or they wouldn't buy or even view it for free online or anywhere for that matter. You see what you see, period.
The gay-straight sex thing is evolving fast about sex and out puritanical views of sexuality. Sex happens! Sacha is out there and making a statement left up to ones own personal opinion about what he does, but he sure does make the world think about taboo (?) issues. And laugh. Like him or not he's got steel balls for his boldness of provoking thought.

his genius lies in his ability to hold a mirror to entrenched societal attitudes. Give this film a chance - I can't wait to see the fashion industry blown open as the elitist nonsense it is.
It would seem some are still smarting a little from Borat, and it still makes me laugh (and a little sad) when commenters believe that film was poking fun at Kazakhstan.

I think those people know at an "unconscious" level that Borat wasn't about Kazakhstan, and that Bruno isn't mocking gay people. I think they realize that it is their own prejudices and pretensions that are being slammed, and their "outrage" is a way of rationalizing their own embarrassment... they're blaming the movies for convicting them of attitudes they don't want to admit they have.

Me, as well. It just goes to demonstrate how far down Hollywood culture has drug us. ANYONE can make money with these circus freak show antics - and baseness. It speaks volumes about this man - and his rearing - that he is WILLING to debase himself for money in this way. Let him debase himself and whoever shares his cultural/artistic taste join with him. But to drag us ALL down with this crap is just plain awful.
