I Like ItI Don’t Like It

InfoMania, Current TV's half-hour satirical news show, has some features we can't resist. First, the hilarious "Target Women": Sarah Haskins's advertorial humor segment, second "That's Gay": the sketch that skewers the crazy things straight people do re: homosexuality. This week host Bryan Safi showed us what talking heads have to say about gay marriage and why it will destroy us all.

Obama deputy campaign manager abandons DOMA & DADT as priorities
http://www.americablog.com/2009/07/obama-deputy-campaign-manager-abandons.html

"After two weeks of the Obama White House reeling over the gay backlash caused by the anti-gay DOMA brief, which compared gay marriage to incest and pedophilia, we now have...

First, that the burden for doing anything pro-gay in the remaining three and a half years of the Obama administration is now shifted to Congress. Obama has no role whatsoever, and no power to influence anything, even though he's still the leader of the free world.

Second, the three big gay rights priorities that Congress should be focusing on do not even include what have organically become the community's top two priorities: repealing DOMA and Don't Ask Don't Tell. They're not even mentioned in the Obama deputy's essay."

Let's make marriage a managed commodity; use the cap and trade model. I could sell my right to marry to a gay couple, and then use the money to buy a new Mustang and a high-class hooker.

Great idea! I'll sell my right for enough $ to make my mortgage payments for the next 5 years :)

Marriage is legalized oppression. If Gays wants to claim the institution it they are welcome to it but please dont act like its some sacred natural human organization. Its a social and cultural construct to keep folks in line. Apparently its not working with the high rate of freedom that comes through divorce.

It was invented, I suspect, to protect property, progeny, and women, probably in that order.

If nothing else, marriage vows are a testimony to our incipient unfaithfulness.

Thank you for pointing out that fact. However, in the USA, Christianity should have absolutely nothing to do with the polemic, since the debate is about SOCIAL rights, N.O.T. religious rights. This country was founded on separation of Church and State.

I agree that religion should play no role in the creation of laws in the US. I present the article to show that these so call Religious leader or almost anyone else, know squat about the history of the Early Christian era and how they felt that everyone was worthy of the sanctity of marriage, as opposed to now where only a privileged few feel that they should decide who should marry. These people make a mockery of the teachings of Christ and wonder why people run away from religion in droves.

Canada has had same-sex marriage since 2005, and no ill effects have yet been observed. My partner and I visited Victoria, BC only a month ago and saw no signs of civilizational collapse there. The buses were running on time, the flowers in the Butchart Gardens were still lovingly tended, and the newspapers carried no reports of increased bestiality among the local population.

And amazingly, neither the marriage (over 50 years) of my parents, my marriage (over 25 years) nor the upcoming marriage of my daughter have been ruined by the specter of same-sex marriage.

It's not an issue to us. But then again, we're Canadians. We don't involve ourselves in the private decisions of others.

Marriage itself is not being redefined; it's the gender of the participants that is being redefined. We redefine things all the time in our society. But somehow, marriage is sacrosanct to redefinition because it has a 50% failure rate? Yeah, that's logical. Speaking of redefinition, did you hear that the British will get rid of that "i before e except e" rule? It's not sufficeint that we see lots of spelling errors everyday. So let's add another one to the mix.

When a dishwasher experiences a 50% failure rate, they call it a lemon, recall it, and redesign it.

This was very funny and kinda trashed the argument against allowing gays to wed. Great job, Current TV.

Very good. Those conservative men need to study history. Gay marriages did exist in the past 5,000 years and beyond.

I'm really in favor of traditional marriage. I just can't decide how many concubines my husband should have.

Even the Early Christrian Church had rites for same sex partners.
