Peter Laufer, a journalist who has written about everything from war to neon signs to immigration, sat down with Jon Stewart this week to discuss his new book "The Dangerous World of Butterflies: The Startling Subculture of Criminals, Collectors, and Conservationists."

He told Stewart that the book began as a joke: He flippantly said that after writing about Iraq War vets his next book would be about flowers and butterflies. It stopped being a joke when he discovered the dangerous underbelly of the butterfly world that includes poachers and supervillains. Jon Stewart was rightfully shocked to hear there are those who will pay absurd amounts of money to own endangered butterflies.
