Wall Street Journal:

Welfare rolls, which were slow to rise and actually fell in many states early in the recession, now are climbing across the country for the first time since President Bill Clinton signed legislation pledging "to end welfare as we know it" more than a decade ago.

So, what do the majority of these states with the largest increase have in common?

The fix has been in for quite some time, rest assured that nothing has changed with the recent elections.

In exchange for 3 1/2 hours of your life, you too can understand why the numbers of poor in this country is increasing.

Watch it here and now.

"Welfare Rolls Increasing In 23 Of The 30 Largest States" - This is the legacy of Reaganomics, and decades of conservative economic policy (unregulated capitalism).

Before anyone talks about this administration,
first remember the Bush created this situation.
Two wars, terrible economic plan and
look at where we're at-

Before you talk again, learn a bit about American history. Bush did not create this situation. It began long before he showed up. Obama has not caused this situation either. However, Obama is creating a new surprise by spending trillions we don't have. It will be a surprise that will definitely impact you and your family. Coming soon.

"To me it's good news," says Ron Haskins of the Brookings Institution, who helped draft the 1996 welfare-overhaul law as a Republican congressional staff member. "This is exactly what should happen."

Let me suggest this Bo Bo live in no man's land for six months so he can tell us how well the program is working. Give him a salary just over the threshold for food stamps and welfare. Let’s see how well it's working with a family of four, a mortgage, Cobra and other expenses needed to get by.

Oh the joys of a Socialist Government the Democrats are taking us to. Everyone at some point will have a job, sweeping streets, polishing statues and the like. Bread will cost $100 a loaf. Welcome to Socialism 2009. Reminding to those voting Democratic, don't drink the koolade.

The foresshadowing was ominous. But facts, and history do not lie. Obama holds the record for the largest drop in the stock market in history on the day of any elected president (100 yrs) AND on the day of his swearing in--the last 44 years!!. And we are suprised welfare is on the rise?

You have to work to work a minimum of ten years (40 quarters) at a job where you pay into social security in order to be eligible for social security.

Stop all payments to, social services, education and health benefits for non-U.S. citizens immediatly! Deport illegal aliens from our federal and especially state prisons. We will all go the way of California. That state is doomed! Education, welfare, healthcare, grants, etc for illegals, and non-U.S. ctizens cost that state BILLIONS upon BILLIONS! It stands as a shinning example for us all. Lets take care of U.S. citizens first, then worry about housing, educating, providing ealth care to non-U.S. citizens. Amazing! Let the label "Hater" come my way--but you pay for it all ok?

The crony capitalist bankers have stolen much more than all the illegals have used in the US, at least illegals work and produce something of value.

Bush and Paulson got that ball rolling - I didn't see the GOP calling for his head when he Nationalized the Banks and when Bush bailed out GM.

Bush should have let the banks fail -the Fed shouldn't have cut a deal to try and save Sterns or Merrill

I suspect those stimulus jobs, BTW, will be handled exactly as every other Fed dollar is handled. Funds will go to contractors favored by state govts, tit for tat will be continued in the case of election contributions, etc. And of cousre, those contractors will continue to employ cheap labor through sub-contractors, and will deny any involvement, as they have done on numerous govt jobs.

Will someone, please, of sound mind, tell me why taxpayer dollars should go to those people? I suspect the process is still as tainted as ever. And contractors who hire other than US citizens will profit admirably, while those same US citizens are scrambling to stay off the streets the best they can.

Call me anything you wish--but the truth is the truth. I've seen it with my own eyes, having family and friends be denied jobs simply because they "demanded" the same pay they had been making, even without benefits, not half of it just to line the pockets of greedy cheap labor advocates.

These people, charities and agencies have not received the funds they ALWAYS received since Bush invadeded Iraq. You don't know what your saying considering you did not make a decent statement with back up for debate. Your tax payer dollars does not cover one persons expense and if many more decided it is humane to care for the poor your out of luck. There is no welfare for life anymore so your crying is useless. The problem is JOBS, which the Republicans took overseas. There is so much more to this so I suggest you take a course in social work and see if you can grasp the history of needy people.
