BOSTON — A New Hampshire postal worker is getting his own special delivery.

George Knapp and his wife, Dani-Jean Stuart, of Weare, N.H., have adopted the two-pound, 8-week-old kitten that was dropped in a public mailbox in Boston.

The MSPCA Animal Care and Adoption Center says Stuart directed a television news segment about the kitten, which the organization dubbed "Postina." The couple has renamed their new pet P.D., for "postage due."

A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier found the kitty earlier this month amid dozens of envelopes and packages. She likely was stuffed through the mailbox's small opening and dropped several feet onto the mail below.

Animal abandonment in Massachusetts is punishable by up to a $2,500 fine and 5 years in prison.

Sadists can be inventive. Dropping animals into a mail box was easy before 9/11/01. Some sadists couldn't cram the kitten into a mail box without killing it.

It never ceases to amaze me the depth of depravity and cruelty humans are capable of.

as long as the US postal service allows companies to send LIVE baby chicks thru the mail these kinds of things will continue - people need to express more outrage at the treatment of animals and support more animal rights laws to put a stop to this.

Animal abuse really ticks me off. If you have a kitten that needs a home put it in a box and hang out in front of a grocery store (or any store that gets a lot of people coming and going). You're almost guaranteed to find someone who wants to take it home. At the very least take it to an animal shelter, what kind of jack@ss just dumps a kitten off in a mailbox? What the he11 is wrong with these idjits?

That's how I got my first two felines, Clover and Crimson, from a dear young girl sitting outside a neighborhood grocery store in 1987. All the rest have found me, but those two puddins from the grocery store still own my heart.

Some humans are just such mindless a-holes! Karma will get the person that dumped the kitten .

Postina? Pretty gay.

How about Stampy? (Yes, I know it was Bart's elephant.)

I'm glad a postal worker got first dibs on the kitty. The Japanese call that coloring "Mi kei", which I think means "three colors". They are considered good luck. Of course, I think that will come after the kitten grows out of the Curtain Climbing Stage.

Lucky new proud owners. Postina is a "money cat," meaning she has more than two colors. When you own a "money cat" good luck seems to follow. I own one, my Emma, and she is my lucky baby. My other two are white boys, but with or without luck, I love them all. Bravo, New Hampshire!

My fiance and I recently adopted a 3 month-old tuxedo kitten that was found, wailing, on the compound where we both work. Though we already had four at home and didn't actively want anymore, we were, thankfully, capable of taking in another with no problems. I say "thankfully" because I fell in love with that little girl the moment I laid eyes on her.

We have had her over a month now, and Abby has brought nothing but joy and fun into our home. The other cats accepted her quickly; especially our sweet, long-haired black (about a 1.5 years old), Max, who has become her best friend and constant companion. She's still a "Mama's Girl" and I wake up to find her curled against my side in the mornings.

Giving a cat a loving, happy home is very rewarding and, if you are able to do so financially, I urge people to adopt lost/dropped off animals or adopt from their local shelters. Our house is only a "home" because of the five, lovable balls of fur - which keep us either laughing or loving - who share it with us.

You are freakin' awesome, skatoolaki!

Financial ability is correct! Cats are living longer but many succumb to renal failure. I have a five year old, Rolex Jacket, who was born with a hole in his diaphragm. Without correction, the little guy would have died. His doc made the hole a bit bigger, pulled all the organs back through, put them where they belong, then corrected the congenital problem. Rolex did have some recovery time. He is a healthy and happy treasure. I certainly didn't have the $800 for the surgery, but most animal hospitals are willing to work with you in times of need.
