State Senator Murphy Running For Governor

CHICAGO (AP) -- Republican state Sen. Matt Murphy has announced plans to run for governor next year.

The Palatine attorney has told the Chicago Tribune he feels he gives his party its best chance to win.

Murphy says he's gotten good feedback on his decision to run.

He was first elected to the senate in 2006. He says the fact that he doesn't have ties to the GOP of the past, including convicted former Gov. George Ryan, is an asset.

Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, a fellow Republican, announced in March that he'll run next year.

And Democrats including Attorney General Lisa Madigan are said to be considering running.

The primary will be held in February.

This is going to be Lisa Madigan's race to lose. Her father and the Daley family realize that they have a chance to control the entire state will raise enough cash to overwhelm any challenge.

Are you kidding me? Chances are that if she doesn't decide to go for governor, which she would win being one of the most popular politicians if not the most popular politician in illinois, she would win the U.S. senate race anyway.

There's no way the republicans can break this stronghold, sorry.
