We all know about hunger and its devastating impacts on people around the world. Children are especially vulnerable. It may be surprising to learn that 36,000,000 Americans go hungry every day, and 12,000,000 of those are children.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have joined forces with Kellogg, Katalyst, Feeding America and Facebook.to raise awareness of the growing hunger problem in the US. Kellogg will be donating $10,000,000 worth of cereal to Feeding America to kick start the effort.

Watch the following video to learn more about the effort and how you can help.

You can follow their progress on Facebook (www.facebook.com/kelloggcares) or by subscribing to Ashton or Demi's Tweets on Twitter.com.

There is one major problem with the capitalist system. Greed. A VERY major problem.

Yeah there are no hungry people in China or Russia....Try to become a citizen of France and see if they let you..do you really think there is some kind of socialist super power? Capitalism has done more to solve the worlds problems than anyone. Do you see any Russians running to America to help? What about Africans or Haitians. Can more be done sure will it ever be enough...no China has been and will horrid money. Being a humanitarian and smart do not always go hand and hand. We had a beautiful thing here. So much more could have been done. If only so much money was not wasted on hair dye......

These guys are not Kellogg's, but they are trying a grass roots effort to Raise Awareness of Hunger in America and there isn't a marketing or profit angle in their efforts : http://www.facesofhunger.org/

Processed grains are the worst , lowest quality foods. Even fast food hamburgers have more nutritional value. Miserable.

what are you doing to help?

But the problem goes deeper than that. Corporate America could feed several small countries for years on their bonuses alone. Kellogg and other donating funds is a great start, but food banks, etc. offer only a short term remedy. And that $10mil donated buys an awful lot of advertising, doesn't it?

The band-aid needs changing. How about a cure?

What about geared to income food subsidies and nutrional education for starters? If the fruit and vegetable amrketing boards had as much to spend on advertising as Multi-national conglomerates do, we'd all be vegetarian.

That Missouri congresswoman called hunger a motivator, and so Keith Olbermann named her Worst Person in the World.

What a sad, heartbreaking failure of our capitalist system to allow such a stain on our national character. What are we gonna do about it, people?
