Repya

Joe Repya, a Minnesota Republican who ran for party chair in 2007, is now quitting the GOP. The Iraq and Vietnam war veteran, who was Co-Chair of Minnesota Veterans for Bush-Cheney in 2004, wrote in the Pioneer Press:

After years of ineffective party leadership resulting in a record number of defeats, lack of transparency in party dealings, alleged financial impropriety by former party employees, and numerous Federal Election Commission problems, can you really blame the electorate for abandoning the Minnesota GOP?

On June 13, the party continued its death spiral by electing the same failed leadership that has lost the last two elections. The "old guard" network of the GOP State Central Delegates continued to imitate lemmings gleefully following each other over the cliff to the political abyss below. [...]

In my opinion, the new party leaders are rabid, power-hungry ideologues and the former attack dogs of the previous party chairman. They will not provide a message of inclusiveness or willingness to discuss contrary opinions. Honest, open and transparent party operations will not exist.

I have a feeling most of the rats will go down with the burning ship.

When you simply view conservative ideology as a scam, it makes sense to just keep running the scam until it's over. But it will never be over- there will always be people with lots of money and lots of hate.

Holy smokes. The GOP is going the way of the dinosaurs.

I'd say this is a good thing, but the truth is that the republican moderates are sick of the radicals and are jumping ship. That only leaves the radicals in charge.

We're going to have the same problem Iran is having, if the leftover GOP ever comes back into power. Rabid theocrats.

I had forgotten my prediction...which appears to be coming true; that the repub's hate and vitriol would ultimately turn inward and act upon themselves. Hate cannibalizes itself.

What if republicans switched to the democrats and democrats started switching to a liberal group.
That would be funny. Do you think we would actually get a separation of ideas instead of all greed and mindless religious robots? In all fairness I like a few Dem's up their I think I can count the number of them on my hand.

Quitting from the REpubs is the best thing he could ever do.

But one thing I will say to the Democrats:

LOCK ALL YOUR DOORS! DO NOT LET THE REPUBLICANS IN!

Amen! This late in the game, abandoning the GOP just comes across as opportunism. He wants to get elected to something, and knows he can't do it as a Republican.

McCain and Gingrich and the like at least have the perverse loyalty to go down with the ship...

I don't think that's fair. He should be commended for trying to change things from within.

The party too big to die...I wonder if our government will give them a bailout like everyone else.

Don't worry, the bailed out corporations will turn around and pass the money on to keep the republican party alive. They'll keep paying to put up candidates and commercials whether people vote for them or not

The gov't is run by Democrats. What do you think of the chance they'll bail out the Republicans?

Karma, indeed, is a bi#@h. The "southern strategy" days of the rabid republican party in American politics is over. Everyone else should read this guy's "memo". The remaining people of their "party" have been so marginalized by the American voters that they would want to stop and listen to "we the people". Still, the republicans refuse. Just today on MSNBC, one of the senators said he didn't believe the polls about 72% of the American people wanting a public option for healthcare; 50% of them being "republicans". He said the "republican party" knew the best way; not the voters because we don't know the "truth". Really?

I love it, a Republican telling the Truth about the Party

Just a bunch of "Power-hungry ideologues" and he could have added hypocrites

Repya was the go-to-guy for the swift-boaters in Minnesota in 04'. When a rat this big gets off the ship you know it's going down! Maybe Normie needs a "Military Adviser" in his next gig.

He hasn't seen any love from the MN GOP since '04, either. They passed him over for party chair, maybe because he's an outspoken Iraq war hawk and very little else. I don't think he's even held any sort of public office.

When Eagles Soar

Around and around;
here comes the ground.
Oh the moment profound!

Stay with me; stay with me;
Die the good death with me.
We're red!
We're dead!

Around and around;
here comes the ground
