In a regular segment that Mr. Richter must love called "Andy'll Try It" Conan O'Brien made his sidekick sit on the creepiest chair I've ever seen last night. It seemed even worse than the time he made Richter drink bacon-flavored vodka.

I'm so old I can remember when the Tonight Show used to be actually funny. Now it's just sophomoric silliness disguised as humor. Conan couldn't even carry Leno's jockstrap, let alone Carson's. Conan's brand of humor is akin to that of prepubescent teenage boys snickering over a dirty picture instead of actual humor. Thanks, NBC, for destroying my 40-year late night ritual of watching the Tonight Show. That added hour of sleep I get nightly has done wonders for me.

Isn't that the point? I mean.... nobody else can be Johnny but Johnny. And if Conan did an imitation of Johnny Carson, he would be mocked for it. Each host has put their own spin on the show.

Leno was a great comic once but he embraced mediocrity to put his ancient audience to bed for the Almighty Buck.

Conan has been funny three or four times ever. His younger audience stands by his "genius" but they are functionally illiterate for the most part.

Letterman is beating Conan in the ratings and Dave is going on fumes. If you think Conan is funny, you have the right to think so. Conan and his audience lack a sophistication that previous generations took for granted.
