What's Your Reaction?

There were so many amazing things about the Obamas' volunteerism at the United We Serve event this morning, we don't know where to begin. How about we start with Sasha's 'mini-me' ode to Michelle? Both Obama women wore turquoise capri pants, yellow tops, and comfortable sneakers.

Of course, another amazing thing was that the whole Obama family helped fill 10,000 backpacks for children of military servicemen and women. Read more about the event here.

We're also thrilled that White House Social Secretary--and HuffPost reader's pick for best-dressed woman in Washington--Desiree Rogers made an appearance, yukking it up with friend and First Lady Michelle Obama on the South Lawn.

Finally, the first couple engaged in a little PDA as the president checked his wife out at the podium. He then had trouble keeping his hands off her, as you'll see below.

I love the way Mr. President is always looking at his wife. They are so in love.

The Obama's are a fine example of real American Family Values. I love these pictures, you can feel the emotion and happiness behind them.

I agree wholeheartedly with "the family who volunteers together"... My husband and I each have our own services we volunteer for individually, but there is something special when we deliver Meals on Wheels together; we feel the partnership in humanity--we realize it's NOT about us.

When I was a little girl, I was enchanted by Jackie Kennedy and her children.

Not since then have I felt this slightly-embarrassing warm, squishy feeling when looking at a First Lady and her children. I just love the way she looks at them, holds them, smiles into their eyes. You can see the love radiating between them. Throw in the obvious love that radiates between President Obama and his wife and children and I just...melt.

I might not react that way if my own family had been more loving -- but this survivor of The Family from Hell gets a warm, squishy feeling that is part longing, part respect, and part hope just looking at them.

I'm very proud to see a lovely family rise to a place of such prominence in our culture.

So sue me, I love these kinds of pieces and yes, they seem like news to me -- GOOD news.

Yes, isn't nice to see a warm, happy family just being together during this Gov. Sandord mess. The President really likes and respects his wife besides loving her and adores his girls. I guess THAT is what is called values.

It is good to see the girls doing something meaningful with their mother.

As far as the fashion part goes-I would love to see some of the women who talk about physical beauty be in the public eye on a daily basis. Showing the nation and the rest of the world your sense of style.
Would you be so shallow as to have a new pair of tennis shoes every time you stepped out in public?
Are so affluent that you don't wear the same outfit more than once?
Are you so good looking that no one would find or define your flaws?

There is not one woman who is in the public eye that some one does not find fault with. This is just human nature. But it seems to me that every time I jump over here to read an article-the same comments pop up about Michelle. Look at what the woman is doing in terms of action. And if you are a true clothes horse-with five star style-bring it on and show us what you're working with.

"The Penderwicks" is a great girl's book -- good choice. I think it's fantatic that they're helping soldiers' families and modeling how families can volunteer together. You don't have to be GOP or Dem to know when you see good role modeling happening--just have to be mature enough to admit it when it happens outside your own party! Personally, I always loved Laura's and Barbara Bush's (the elder) promotion of reading.

There's video of that moment, it's really cute. Michelle was talking about hula-hooping, and she did a little dance, which caught the president's eye.

I think it speaks volumes about a President and his family volunteering together. Just think what an impact it would have had during the aftermath of Katrina if then President Bush had volunteered on the ground where the people were instead of telling "Brownie" that he was doing "a heckuva job".

Also, what is the big deal about the First Lady wearing the same pear of shoes twice? I think that it is cool and not that far removed from most of us working moms in the US.

This is completely ridiculous. How many pairs of sneakers do you expect her to own? Of course she's going to be wearing the same pair more than once.

Exactly! Who would only wear a pair of sneakers once?

Personally, I would be kind of miffed if in this recession, my First Lady was showing up everywhere in brand new outfits... which is what would have happened with Cindy McCain, had John McCain been elected.

Why do they parade their children out there ? Don't they know that makes them fair game for bloggers?

LOL! You're confused. That's only Republicans' children...NOT the Obamas' children. I know the rules are hard to keep up with especially since they're not fair or just but you'll catch on!

Oh, thanks. I'll try to keep this in mind in the future as I watch further photo ops with the Obama children.

I know this may be hard for you to understand, but providing service is not "parading". It's all about intention. Showing how families can volunteer together is not parading your kids across the stage for political reasons.

Think about it.

They are teaching their children how to give back to a country that have given so much to them!! They are not just parading them on stage for sympathy votes! Besides the Obama's could care less about bloggers; they don't concern themselves with pettiness or hold press conferences everytime something unflattering is said about them or their children! That's a Palin trait!!

They are being decent role models. They don't want their children to lose their ability to be kind and treat others with compassion. And the parents are doing it too. They aren't being "paraded" they are being a family and giving to CHILDREN Of SERVICE members. I didn't see the Bush family ever doing anything like together. W had nothing but contempt for our service members and only used them as a photo op. Not so here.

If you noticed where this article is, you would not question if its "newsworthy". Its under STYLE which means its not necessarily news. If someone baked you a an apple pie with apples they picked from their own trees, you'd still find something wrong with it.

Yes, this is newsworthy. In a country that is slowly eroding in family values or just plain human decency...we need this example. It is newsworthy and far outweighs all the other "gossip like tabloid" negative images we are intravenously fed on a daily basis which is contributing to our lack of appreciation for this kind of example that should stimulate and inspire but instead....generates criticism.

Yes it is. We are a country at war and the president and his family volunteering to help the families of the troops is definitely newsworthy. If you don't agree, then don't click on the story.

A lot of people have healthy marriages and families. It is just unusual to see a functional first family. It is adorable that the little one wants to mimic mommy. Anyone would love to have Michelle and Barak as parents.
