Wall Street Journal:

LINCOLN, N.H. -- After seven months without a paycheck, Tim Ryan turned into a werewolf.

Laid off from a construction job, Mr. Ryan finally found work last month playing the wolfman at Clark's Trading Post, a tourist attraction in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. For $12 an hour, about half what he made before, he dons furry rags, a coonskin cap and an eye patch and jumps out of the woods when the Trading Post's steam train chugs by, snarling and growling at passengers.

Here's an idea: Instead of hi.tting the road, get marketable skills or become better at what you do.

I get calls from hea.dhunters CONSTANTLY trying to get me to work for this company or that. I field no less than 3 calls a week, most of which would probably ultimately result in a job offer if I wanted to pursue it. The jobs are out there--if you're smart enough and good enough.

The people whi.ning for the most part are either incom.petent, low wage labor, or stu.bornly trying to remain in the financial/real estate sector instead of using their transferrable skills to get into another field.

If I were a female, I'd have a side-gig as a hooker.

This story takes you back to the thirties when the Okies migrated to California to pick crops. Many of these farmers were wiped out by the dust bowl in Oklahoma and further west and had no choice but to pack their belongings and leave. Crops were no longer growing on their modest farms, so they couldn't pay their mortgages.

Today, we have people traveling all over the US in search of work. I would do this because I'm currently unemployed, but travel is too expensive at this time. Instead, I'm attempting to re-invent myself here at my father's house. Perhaps I will start a small business, because their isn't any work in this area except for selling insurance and annuities and who's buying those right now? Wal-Mart has a waiting list of prospective employees and fast food jobs pop up now and then.

Unemployment is going to get worse before it gets better. Think I'll opt for starting up a home business. Who knows? If the business succeeds, I may be able to hire someone to work with me. Entrepreneurship rules!

Good news for you....we have jobs on road and bridge construction crews. It pays good and you can get in 12 hr a day, 6 days a week. So far the only willing help we can find is Mexicans and other non-citizens. But if your willing ...... we can use you.

My company put an ad in the paper for a driver to deliver books to schools in New York City. Minimum wage, benefits (such as it is), no points on the drivers license, your basic, manual labor job.

You should have seen the responses, about 500, from teachers, executives and other white collar background people. We even got a resume from someone with 2 DUIs, eight tickets and 3 accidents.

It's sad what has happened to the middle class in this country.

So Americans are becoming refugees in their own country.

i wonder what the Founding Fathers would say about that!

AND WAIT UNTIL GLOBAL WARMING KICKS IN BIG TIME ... then we will really see people on the move.

And what about their health care? Oh, they'll just go to the emergency room in whatever town they are in and rack up huge expenses at the taxpayer's expense.

What kind of a system is this?

What kind of a country is this?

SHAMEFUL!
