Variety:

VH1 and History have joined forces to bring the Barbara Kopple doc "Woodstock: Now and Then" to television, with airings on both channels scheduled within days of each other in August.

The two-hour "Woodstock" will appear Aug. 14 on VH1 and again three days later on History, coinciding with the event's 40th-anniversary weekend.

Quite a bit of generational jealousy and anger expressed here.

Understandable, though.

how many decades have they been hocking his Woodstock cr@p now? Target is selling dozens of different Woodstock tee's right now. Same tee I had 20 years ago. I think it's way past the time for us to grow up.

Oh that's right. I forgot. My life has no meaning because I wasn't at Woodstock.

You made me laugh, MajorKong. I have met many people throughout my life who claim to have been there. I have never understood why having been there is worn like a badge of honor.

I mean, I know Arlo Guthrie was rappin' to the fuzz and I can dig it, but still.

I remember when this happened, and what amazed me at the time was that Joni Mitchell , who couldn't make it to Woodstock , was able to write such a beautiful song about what Woodstock meant. At this time in history American kids felt they could stop the war and change the world for the better. We had yet to be beaten down by Neocons.

You hippies BECAME the neocons. Geez. You just had to party a bit first. My in-laws were hippies, and they and all of their friends became raging Republicans in the 90's, after they partied away the 60's, 70's and 80's. Guess they got tired.

Name one Neocon that was a hippie, and Norm Coleman doesn't count, he is just a waterboy for the neocons.

For those not familiar with Woodstock:
Some people went to Woodstock.
They have been patting themselves on the back ever since.

Because what this world needs is another Woodstock documentary.

I agree. It's been done. On the other hand, It's a lot closer to history than munster hunters, ufo hunters, axmen (tree hunters?), and Modern Marvels. Modern Marvels starts each hour with five minutes of program time covering 2000 years of history followed by 47 minutes of commercials for whichever factories allows them in the door. I'm not saying these shows are not interesting to someone, but with 500 channels they belong elsewhere.

Noam Chomsky says the 1960s were America's civilizing decade. It's when we joined the rest of the world. America spent her post WWII years making sure her children were the most broadly educated in her history, but many older Americans did not appreciate the resulting shift in consciousness.

The rest of the world was already civilized? The rest of the world easily matched the resultant evils of US policies.

The Kennedy's, MLK, Viet Nam, racism..

I don't know where Noam Chomsky spent the sixties, but they kinda sucked here
