I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Johnny Depp explained to David Letterman why he doesn't watch his own movies on Thursday, as he was on "The Late Show" to promote a movie in which he stars and that he has never seen, "Public Enemies."

"In a way, once my job is done on a film, it's really none of my business," Depp told Dave. "I stay as far away as I possibly can... I don't like watching myself."

And as they've seen the "Pirates" movies, Depp said, "My kids has have seen more of my films than I have."

In cruising through this website I saw the picture of Depp and the picture of Michael Jackson almost side by side...and it hit me, that when they make the movie of Jackson's life, and you know they will, that Depp would be the perfect person fot the role. He will not get it because he's not Black and that would upset a whole lot of folks...But he is strange enough and talented enough to play the role. Both Jackson and Depp are unique guys, both hyper talented. Depp can go to some very dark places in his roles and come back again, sane and alive.

In my humble opinion. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas is the penultimate Depp role.

Now, I know he's seen that, Benico, Depp, Gilliam and even Thompson himself were there. Hunter presented Depp with a custom chrome .357 Magnum in front off the screen.

And his "accent"? It's Kentucky, Louisville to be precise, Thompson had it to, being that they were both from Louisville. And both were/re Colonels of Order of Kentucky to boot.

I do believe the whiner doth protest to much.
It's just not normal Bubba.
You're either the anger-management poster boy or a failed wanna-be actor that can't handle others success.
BTW, most actors never see their own work, being that most of it is performed on a stage. Seeing your own work is actually the exception to the norm for most professionals.

He was great in "Fear and Loathing."
And I hate to admit ... I *really* hate to admit it, but I laughed my butt off at his performance during the first "Pirates" movie. It was one of the funniest things I've ever watched.
And my daughter loves that movie, too.

"Penultimate" means "the second to the last in line." It doesn't mean "the most ultimate" or "the ultimate ultimate."

True but, in traditional Vaudeville the second to the last act is the headliner; the best act. ...And we are talking in terms of the performing arts.

I love Johnny and I love Captain Jack Sparrow. POTC is an awesome movie. Rumors of POTC 4 have been around for a while. I am also very fond of his movie Don Juan DeMarco.

All good looking actors always try to act deep or tortured. Jolie is the same way. They have to prove to themselvers that they're just not another pretty face.

I know a few great documentary camera persons who will not look at the final, edited product.
They have no vote on what is used or not, so they do their job and walk away without the inner hassle of questioning why didn't those who had all the power use THAT shot instead of the one I liked. They don't need the hassle. I have a good eye but rarely shot because I didn't want to give up control of what I shot.

As an occasional actor, I understand Depp's reluctance to view the final product. He avoids the mental torture of "why didn't they use THAT take, That was my best?" He avoids countless, sleepless hours fussing over something over which he has no control. Smart guy.

God bless him.... truly untouchable and in choosing movie roles he goes all out.
Balls of steel sir.
Balls of steel.

It is so refreshing to see such a handsome incredibly talented actor not give 2 F's what other people think.
Successful or not.

One of the greatest actors in decades.

I AM DRIPPING WITH ENVY (for sure)

Yet what is it
with these people who have everything that they have to act like
they are above the feelings and thoughts and actions of "normal average" people.
(how can you be a good actor without some form of frailty?)

Seems that being an ACTOR you get to cherry pick your human attributes.
Out are the bad: jealousy, envy, ego, all get swept away while pretending to
be a god to us all.

If I ever become a international movie star I will remember never to watch my own movies.

Thanks Johnny D.

What's the deal with Depp's accent? Is he going the Madonna route?

He lives in France, and you get the international twang when you live there. You should hear him in 'Sleepy Hollow' if you want to hear a good English accent. He nails it, and I swear he sounds better than some people actually raised there.

He's always spoken like that. He has a very unique accent but if you go back and watch any old interview he sounds the exact same. I like it though. It sounds classic for some reason. He was definitely born in the wrong era but that is what makes him so wonderful today.

That occurs naturally when you live in other cultures.

No need for pretense....it just happens. If he spent more time in America, he'd sound more American.

Give me a break with all of your excuses. I remember the 21 Jumpstreet Depp. Then he made a few films that helped kind of type cast him into being some sort of eccentric. He ran with that and spent some time overseas where he quickly started talking different(In a very Madonna like manner). Then he basically said that most Americans are stupid. That is why he has adopted this new ultra artsy eccentric Jim Morrison persona/role.

Hey, these celebrities usually possess extreme levels of narcissism, self righteousness and other psychological issues. Whatever it takes for Depp to put on a good performance is cool with me, because I do like a lot of his films. And I agree with him that he should just play his part in the film then just be gone, which includes no interviews like this one. Because his ultra pretentiousness is an incredible burn out for me.
