McClatchy:

WASHINGTON When South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford added a stop in Argentina to his trade mission to Brazil last June, the side trip should've raised eyebrows because he was undertaking a trade mission that the U.S. government was unwilling to make.

It's usually Argentina that exports the sausage.

Trade mission? Exchanging body fluids is not a trade mission.

Why is he not being impeached?

Why is he not under arrest?

South Carolina, for once in your infamous history, do your duty.

let us all remeber that george "i don't care" w was the president. The repugs knew that they could get away with anything and the media too incompetent to investigate, because they were bought and paid for by the bush administration,.

To me, this does not add up. What do we know about this trip? For one, Governor Sanford did not go there just for the love of a beautiful Argentinean. He also visited with Scioli, Governor of Buenos Aires and someone else whose name is not given… so, what is the secret? Was the other person Kirchner? (Mr. Kirchner is former president, although un-officially still runs the country).
Maybe I see a conspiracy where there is nothing but an escape to true passionate love. Yet, it is quite intriguing that Governor Sanford’s visit happened only days before the Argentine election; and just when Mr. Kirchner started to loose support.

Besides getting laid on the taxpayers dime, this caught my eye.
Sanford and Scioli "shared ideas and opinions about how to expand commercial exchange and investment in their districts."

More cheap labor outsoursing Sanford? Not enough yet unemployed in your state or the country?

More GOP going out of their way to continue hurting America citizens.

Why is he not being impeached?

how can this guy not be impeached and/or resign when he's taking trips to Argentina to get laid on the taxpayers dime?

I am so sick of all the wheeling and dealing, lying, and corruption in our government. We have no government. We have liars and crooks destroying our country and soldiers dying trying to protect it. I just want to pull my hair our it makes me so mad. Is there nothing we can do to take back our country from these unconscionable politicians? And please don't answer that question with vote them out of office. That apparently doesn't work or all of D.C. wouldn't be filled with crooks.

To heII with Sanford, and I'm sorry about Michael Jackson, but let's not get distracted.

Why is Al Franken still waiting to be seated in the Senate?

Why aren't the citizens of Minnesota bombarding the State Supreme Court with reminders that they've only got half their constitutionally mandated representation in the Senate?

The citizens of Minnesota already have Michelle Bachmann. Maybe the idea of being represented by yet another comedian makes them nervous...

McClatchy printed "The Commerce Department halted high-level trade missions to Argentina after Argentina reneged on its debts. A Commerce Department official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to discuss the matter publicly, confirmed that Sanford's visit contradicted federal policy.".

Quick, better tell the other governors, you know, like the governors of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, who staged a trade mission to Argentina in 2008, http://www.cglg.org/projects/trade/TradeMissions.asp#ABC2008

In fact, the commerce department itself stages trade missions to Argentina, for example, in 2007, http://www.buyusa.gov/harrisburg/firstenergy11.html, and again in 2008, http://www.buyusa.gov/harrisburg/252.html.

On the other hand, the efforts of US vulture funds to refuse to settle the debt in efforts to force Argentina to pay the vulture funds usurious profits are straining US-Argentina relations, see http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2009/jun/02/argentina-debt-us-vulture-funds

The vultures are engaged in such efforts as to try to seize pension trust funds, see http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601086&sid=aXoU56VMKanc

As the premise of this article was false, perhaps it was merely a vulture plant, riding on the governor's momentary infamy.

Officials do not request anonymity to say what is and what is not public policy, they need such anonymity only to mislead.

Trade was never stopped between the US and Argentina.
The Governors from the Mid-west didn't go to Argentina, American business people did and
it was all legal and above board.

Sanford was going against US Policy because he was the Governor of S. C..
High-level officials were forbidden to go. He did and now we know why.

To my knowledge, Americans, whether governors or not, can only be forbidden to travel anywhere by actual laws passed by Congress, and not by any policy.

Nevertheless, if you know of any such policy, please cite it.

In the meantime:

In 2004 Governor Purdue of Georgia visited Argentina on an official trade mission.

In 2005 Governor Purdue received Argentine Vice President Daniel Scioli on an official trade mission to Georgia.

Governor Christ of Florida visited Argentina on an official trade mission in 2008:

Governor Bob Riley of Alabama, in 2008:

I could go on and on....

Sanford's Argentina trade mission contradicted US policy... which is why the Governor took his PASSPORT with him when he left to go hiking.

Sorry, what I'm suggesting here is, this guy Mark Sanford has a pattern of lying. A long and consistent pattern.
