If, as Mr. Burris says, the purpose of marriage is perpetuation of the species, he must immediately introduce and push through Congress legislation that (1) bars heterosexuals who cannot or will not have children from marrying, and (2) requires all married heterosexual couples to produce their first child within the first year of marriage, on pain of fine or imprisonment, to make sure that they are making their marriage live up to its purpose (perpetuation of the species), and not just milking their marital status for all the tax, insurance, inheritance and legal benefits attached to it.

The old testament specifies the death penalty for homosexuality, and indeed many countries like Great Britain and the Netherlands were executing "sodomites" while they engaged in the African slave trade with their colonies in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. No minority has a monopoly in the worldwide history of oppression.
What does slavery have to do with homosexuality? Can you say red herring?
