War Correspondent

NPR:

With such a high-stakes, high-stress lifestyle, it's no wonder many journalists return from war zones with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. Dr. Anthony Feinstein is one of those working to help them overcome the emotional aftereffects of covering conflict.

After conducting extensive interviews, Feinstein estimates that up to 12 percent of all journalists have PTSD. For correspondents who have covered covered five or more conflicts, the number jumps to 29 percent.

I feel like I have a mild form of PTSD, just from watching 7 long years of senseless
killing. I can't imagine what the people on the front line must be feeling.
Wish them well in their recovery.

I watched NBC Nightly News last night and i just want to acknowledge that when i have been lambasting the American Corporate Media i m not referring to reporters like Richards Engle or David Rhode or any of the other reporters risking their lives to cover real news.

And i would really like to recognize the foreign reporters, the people who live in iraq or Afghanistan and are trying their best to help us understand what is going on.

There aren't nearly enough of them.

But the problems of the Corporate Media come from much higher in the food chain..

Your photo of Michael Ware here leads me to believe that you want me to think he has PTSD.

I don't believe that he's revealed that.

I would change the image.

Ware is an excellent journalist. To me he looks sad. Maybe not PTSD but probably depressed. Covering war for extended perods of time takes its toll. Given the number of reporters and their assistants who were killed in Iraq it is a very dangerous place and I am sure that he is war weary. Mr Ware keep your head down and come home safe.

Michael Ware and Christiane Amanpour are not mouth pieces. They are genuine and deserve respect.

Hmmm could it be that this 12% actually has a conscience and is now traumatized by having been bush and cheney mouthpieces?
