I Like ItI Don’t Like It

New Yorkers this weekend snapped photos and shot video of the sky last weekend after rare clouds, resulting from moist air and dry air mixing after a thunderstorm, turned the sky orange.

The clouds, described as "strange, pink popcorn clouds," are called 'mamatis' clouds.

Watch the report below.

I was in the city and saw these clouds and I must say they were completely surreal. These clouds were nothing I have seen, not in Florida, Arizona, California or whatever. They looked to me like video images of clouds, they popped down and were 3-dimensional. I was actually creeped out by them, they seemed kind of evil looking. Along with the very odd weather the city has experienced I'd say it's quite ominous.

Yeah, you're so right... where I live, the sunset doesn't make the news. I hang my head in shame!

What your actually seeing is the cloud of pollution rising from dirty jersey and wafting over the city.

It's technically Mammatus not Mamatis

Yeah...isn't this just a sunset...you know sun dropping into the horizon, yet light still hits the clouds causing really cool colors to occur....I used to live in Santa Fe, we had these every night. This is one of the saddest stories I have read.

A stupid analogy. As if we've never seen a desert sunset, duh.

The video does not do the clouds justice. They WERE unique in shape, not color.

Absolutely correct, they were the most bizarre thing I've seen in the sky. Totally surreal.

it's not pollution nor just a regular sunset you sad little Americans. You live in such a gilded cage, if you did not you would know that there is a whole world out there where people live and things happen without America's hand being involved.

there was a volcanic eruption in Russia that is making mayhem of the sky. You can read about it here;

I've heard of them. Aren't they quite rare? What is the underlying explanation? Is it the "Round Earth" theory?

As the evening sky faded from a salmon color to a sort of flint gray, I
thought back to the salmon I caught that morning, and how gray he was,
and how I named him Flint.

I suppose you have proof that it's pollution? The same thing happens in south florida all the time and it ain't because of pollution.
