New York Post:

EARLY salary figures from Simon Cowell's "American Idol" contract negotiations are leaking out and they're eye-popping.

Cowell, who reportedly made $36 million last year for judging the hit competition show, has been offered three or four times that amount -- between $100 million and $144 million per year -- by co-producers Fox and 19 Entertainment to stick with "Idol" when his contract expires next May, according to The Guardian, a London newpaper.

As the rock group Dire Straits would title it, "Money for Nothing."

You'd think with all that money Simon would be able to buy himself a new T shirt.

Ah, being paid a fortune for doing absolutely nothing that benefits society...

Not making anything, not coming up with new ideas, just putting down delusional people on a stupid tv show.

At least teachers, police, and fireman are paid well...oh wait...

(and I don't want to hear..."they chose those jobs, they could've done something else")

I hear you!!! There is no value on hard honest work any more! You are made to feel like you are less of a person if you don't work on Wall Street, at a bank, in an office, supervise or manager, etc. If you don't have a college degree society makes you feel as if you are a failure. There will always be many forms of manual labor, hard honest work. The people who do it should be well paid, but instead they are frowned upon. For a so called religious country, this doesn't seem to Christian or religious at all.

And thank you, Simone, for donating 100 million of that, along with all the other celebrities and sports stars, to the "help the middle class not lose their homes" fund. While I applaud donations that go to the poor and underprivileged, I find it refreshing that someone is finally helping the average joe and jane who work hard, put their children through college, work two jobs, and never get a break. What a brilliant idea!

Let's see, at $1,000 apiece, that would feed 144,000 starving children for a year.

The President of the United States makes pennies in comparison! That's vulgar for anyone to make that much money, for there are so many people who need just $1000 to pay their monthly bills.

This is an Absurd amount of money for what he does.

When I first leaned his made 36 million/year...I thought that was way too much, but now - my god.

Michael Jordan and Tom Cruise, don't make this much, I think - and they're way more valuable than Simon Cowell. in my opinion

Millions of people watch, advertisers pay millions for time slots during the show, and the producers clearly feel that Simon Cowell is a big part of the reason for its success. This says much more about the state of our society than it does about anything else. And none of it is good.

Simon, I don't watch AI much but I can honestly say you and your opinions make the show what it is.

144 million to critize someone for doing something he himself can't do. I have only seen this show on comercials and I have never seen him say 1 positive thing. He may be a good guy I don't know but from what I have seen he has an ugly attitude. As a people we are so backwards, we reward people for being ugly.

Oh, for crying out loud, people. Stop complaining. He makes that kind of money because you can't stop watching that BS show or anything that has "American" or "Idol" in its name.
